I'm an avid camper. When I started buying equipment, I was told go cheap and save for the good stuff while learning how to use what you have. I didn't listen either. Why pay for something twice when you can pay a little more once and have it for years. My tent is older than most people on here yet it still keeps me dry when it's raining and warm when it's -40.

Mine was my laptop. I love it. A desk top computer was cheaper but we decided on a laptop and now I can't imagine my life without it.

My house. It was way more than i could afford at the time, but it's so worth the sacrifices i have to make to live there. I love it.

E. Bunny's answer reminded me of it, but a two-person sleeping bag. Worth its weight in gold.
