How could groups and performers like Grandmaster Flash, The Shirelles, Professor Longhair, Ruth Brown and many others, which would hardly be classified as rock icons, be in at all let alone before Kiss. Kiss is not the most musically talented band, but they have shaped Rock & Roll far more than the ones listed above and many others that are already in the Rock HOF.

Good question. As a fan I don't know either. I agree they were not the most talented band, but you cannot deny they had great songs. They made going to see a group live interesting. And they were the biggest thing in the world, not once but twice ('76-'78) ('96-98) You could go on with that, why isn't Rush in the HOF either? The RnR HOF is a joke to me. I've never really understood the idea of not letting fans vote who goes in. After all, we are the ones who make that machine turn. We are the ones who buy the records.

The "official" criteria for getting into the Rock Hall, is that you were an original, did something different, changed the course of music. Really has nothing to do with how many records you sold. And as others have mentioned, unless Jan likes you, good luck. Specifically regarding KISS, there music is not all that hot .... nothing special ... the make up was unique ... but for those of us around when they started, there were probably more kids and young teen at the concerts (with their parents) than real rock fans .... they were a fad that young kids got into .. .comic books and other propaganda being sold. Musically, there is no way they will ever get in.

Jan Wenner does not like the fact that the members of KISS are politically conservative and they can be outspoken about it. Obviously, the editor of Rolling Stone isn't going to like this and stonewalls their induction into the HOF. This is also the same reason Alice Cooper isn't in the HOF. Personally, I don't really care since I don't like KISS nor Alice Cooper nor Rolling Stone magazine very much anyway.

I think it's because Kiss sold out in the early 80's and that hurt a lot of their fans and critics burned them. From that point, Kiss was considered more like a cartoon for kids rather than a real rock band, even though their music was excellent.

Because of disco album "Dynasty", which is an album some Kiss fans would rather forget. Its even the basis for a joke in the movie "Detroit Rock City":

Christine: Hey, you know what? Disco's so f****ing big right now, I wouldn't be suprised if KISS did a disco song.
Lex: Man, if there's one thing KISS will never do, it is a bulls**t disco song.

You guess i do. they have some sturdy songs, yet to be elementary, i became by no potential an rather massive fan until eventually i stated them stay. they ought to get in for his or her overall performance knowledge. They placed on a hell of a teach. in actuality, the perfect I unquestionably have considered thus far or ever. I do although agree that they shouldnt be in in the previous Alice.

They will get in. Look how long it took RRHOF to vote Black Sabbath in. Keep in mind, Alice Cooper isn't in either.

As a fan since before some of you were born, I would say they would not welcome such a thing, as it would make them 'mainstream' or 'acceptable' and they shun that, strenuously...

I've seen them live over a dozen times...one of a kind.
