By fixing, I assume you mean replacing the alternator. That isn't too big of a job, and should only take about an hour. The problem is, you don't know how busy the shop is and what order repairs are being done. So it is more of a question of when can they get to it. Also, when you drop the car off, they may have to order the part from their supplier and this will take some time for the part to be delivered from the parts runner.

Bottom line, is that you should be able to pick the car up leter in the afternoon.

First I would ask if you are at all mechanically minded. If so, I would chk. online to see how difficult it would be to do the job yourself. By hunting around the web, you can most likely obtain instructions. Compared to many other vehicle repairs, an alternator is usually a fairly simple replacement operation, and your local parts store can often times give assistance. If it were a major problem, like a rod knock, I would not make such a suggestion. However, an alternator or even a starter, are many times self-serviceable, and more cost efficient than paying exhorbitant mechanic's fees.

Alternators are normally replaced, rather than repaired by the servicing facility. Assuming that they are replacing the defective unit with another, it should not take more than an hour of labor to complete that task. It's fairly straightforward and simple to do.

The alternator itself runs about $110. for that car and it would be another $20-30 to install it.
