You so not need a cable to connect to wireless router. Hence the term "wireless".
Go into the Control Panel of the laptop and run the "Wireless Network Wizard". It will set up a wireless connection for you.

You need to have a DSL or cable internet connection to connect your wireless router to.
Then you connect your laptop to your router either using an internal network card or a plug in card you can buy at the store, even Wal-Mart and Target have them now.
Configure the wireless router first, then configure the wireless connection from your computer to the router.
