Yes, at least on one occasion. I dreamed that I was in a doctors waiting room and there was a couple engaged in an argument. The details of their argument was boring.
I couldn't pinch myself so I thought that I must be asleep. I decided to wake up. It wasn't easy, but the dream stopped and I became aware of my bed. It was still a few seconds before I could move my body.

I would say so, because when I am having a bad dream I KNOW it's just a dream (in the dream) and tell myself I have to wake up fast or something bad will happen. I do this a lot, so yes, I think it's common.

Just had on today while taking a nap. My attempts to wake up only made It worse. I was so tired and felt like I was going to go ahead and die. Could not change clothes, get a drink of water, or even get off the couch (in the dreams). My husband came home and I was totally out of it and I kept trying to get him to notice I needed help but on his end, everything was normal. He just went on with his evening schedule and didn't notice I was laying on the floor and needed help even with me trying to get his attention.....I had no voice. Finally woke up for good and it is still in my mind as if it really happened.

i sure can't. i have dreams where i am struggling, like trying to run away or something, but moving in super slow motion. i guess that would be a nightmare, but i have never been able to purposely wake myself up. i would think it is not common.

Yes this is common but what is not common is the ability to defeat your enemy in the dream. Victory over what ails you is not in escaping but in defeating the enemy. Sometimes the enemy is "fear" of something or someone; and some dreams are not true but most nightmares give us insight into our true feelings.

Yes, but you need to overcome in the dream what or whom it is once you learn how to defeat these dreams they become less and less. I learned that calling on Jesus or rebuking in the name of Jesus in the dream you can take control of the dream
