Are you entitled to benefits such as extra money when you work at a public school for 5 years?

I worked at a public school system for five years and was told by someone that I should be entitled to a certain amount of money because of my five years I put in. Does anyone know anything about this?

You may have a small amount of money in a Retirement Account of some kind, I not sure.
Also, you may be entitled to Severance Pay of some amount, but, again, I not sure.
