The only reason he was on the street on 9/11 is because he put his disaster center in the one place all the advisors told him not to, in the Towers. He didn't have a center to work from so he had to be on the street. I think he needs to stop pretending he was some hero. The heroes were the ones out there saving lives with their own hands, putting themselves in harm's way. Those are heroes.

Giuliani has always been very good at self-promotion. He will, of course, take advantage of the popularity that 9/11 granted him despite his failings.

The disaster center was put in the towers simply because it was within walking distance of his office. During a emergency, do you think you can drive on the streets of New York? You can't easily get around during a normal work day.

Was that decision the best that he made. Absolutely not. But Rudy, even with his faults, did a good job of managing the crisis and that is why he is being treated as a hero.

If you are so smart and want to second guess people, why don't you run for office and be responsible for those decisions.

Because all he had to do was stand at a podium and look brave and resolute for weeks at a time. At least it seemed like weeks... Few remember that as mayor he was a divisive figure, although admittedly pretty competent at running the city. Unlike Mussolini, he actually did make the trains run on time, using pretty much Mussolini's methods.

Edit: BTW, has anyone noticed that the events of 9/11 seemed to change the way time flowed? I remember that the week after seemed like months...

Edit 2: As others have noted, his actual performance in response to 9/11 was less than stellar.

Giuliani needs to move past the one issue that he has been campaigning on. Yes, 9/11 was important but what is his stance on preventing another attack other than fear mongering? The true heroes of 9/11 were the 1st responders and all those workers who searched for months after wards for remains and are now suffering terribly. By the way Giuliani was seeing his current wife while still married to his 2nd. Hillary stuck by her man --- get over it. I'd rather have her abiding by her marriage vows than a philandering fear monger anyday.

As someone who suffered through his first seven and a half years, he's running on 9/11 because that's all he's got. Without 9/11, his legacy would be somewhere between Dinkins and Koch. But by looking strong for all the photo ops, and giving such reassuring sound bites, he put himself in position to become "America's Mayor," as the media dubbed him (hey, wait a second...isn't the media liberal?). His blunders with handling police shootings, the schools, attacking ads on taxis that made fun of him, etc etc, all forgotten because he was there for us when we needed him.

Of course, where was he to put plans in place in case of an attack for those seven years before? He knew we were a target, but he didn't do anything to protect us. Now he's strong on terrorism? And how about the fact that he never improved police and FDNY radios, which may have cost lives of the true heroes that day?

Without 9/11, Rudy would be totally forgotten. With it, he's a millionaire consultant and presidential front runner.Hope that answers your question.

i'm a Democrat and lived in NYC in route of the suitable of Rudy's second time period as mayor. in the previous human beings settle on to vote for him, or absolutely everyone for that count, they ought to renowned the position he stands on themes. maximum folk who see him recognize him for under 2 issues, the decrease in crime in NYC and how he dealt with 9/11. i will say this about Guliani. As a Democrat he's both my well known candidate and the scariest candidate contained in the Republican field. He has the perfect danger at prevailing a usual election of any Republican, and, oddly, he's the Republican i might want to least innovations prevailing. he's a in a position manager, I percentage dissimilar his social perspectives, he's a Yankee fan and that i found his demeanor comforting after 9/11. there became a large decrease in crime the following for the period of his words as mayor, although the credit for that couldn't fullyyt his (Police Commissioner invoice Bratton benefits some credit besides... and that i receives killed for this yet so does invoice Clinton. certain, crime went down everywhere contained in the country in the course of the 90s. It in simple terms went down swifter the following). He appointed sturdy judges at the same time as he became the following, he has a humorousness, all in all he's a sturdy long island city Republican. We advance 'em diverse the following. i do not pay interest to the own lives of applicants, so the three different halves and the affair do not hardship me. he's by no potential campaigned or been a staunch supporter of "kin values" so there's no hypocrisy there. If Rudy were given the nomination, i might want to evaluate voting for him reckoning on who the Democrats nominated. There are 3 or 4 Democrats i might want to take over Giuliani devoid of questioning, after that i might want to ought to furnish it some concept.

Rudy Guilliani is a lying muppet. Ron Paul for president. At least he tells the truth.

I hope he makes it as their candidate, because when he does, he's toast. A sample question at the debate:

"Why are they still finding remains at gound zero, after 6 years?"

A lot of people died that day because of Giuliani's incompetence. The fire and police radios didn't work with one another. His command center was in a building that had been bombed previously. Being good on a megaphone doesn't make one a good president.

And you think Hillary is wonderful? Rudy is a better person than that woman could ever be. She allowed her philandering husband to humiliate her publicly and took it because she did not want to give up her position as first lady which proves she has no self respect. I would rather have Rudy as president, who as actually achieved things in New York than Hillary whose only claim to fame is a public display of power being more important than self respect.

Rudy never claimed to be a hero. Did you know many people in NYC wanted him to stay on as mayor for another year after 9/11. And yes of course the brave firefighters, cops, etc were heroes. Now go kiss Saint Clinton.
