It organizes the tasks you have to do, so you don't miss something. Also gives you an idea of what you need to do to succeed, and if your business can make a profit and what has to happen to make that profit.
Also, if you try for any financing, they'll want to see your plan.

in simple words to forecast what your goals are when you establish a business and how you think of maintaining your business in the future.
usually in a business plan you have to explain how much you would invest and the rate of return that you are expecting to receive from the revenues of your business
it's more or less like, when you build a house you need the blueprints to see what it should look like etc...and estimate the cost blah blah blah...
