Democrats and Liberals alike believe in bigger government, sharing the wealth so to speak, and more social programs as well as in the merits of being politically correct. They also are advocates of free speech no matter what is said and peace at any cost.Religion is presented as taboo and often myth and they believe their morality comes from within themselves.

Republicans believe in smaller government and less government interference in day to day lives of the citizens as well as personal responsibility and accountability on the individuals part. It is based in morality often stemming from deep Christian belief and family values, the average republican will answer a call to arms in defense of their country and consider it an honor to fight and/or die for freedom.

The essential difference lies in each party's alignment along the political spectrum. To the extreme left is totalitarianism in which the government dictates every aspect of day to day life for it's citizenry. The extreme right is anarchy in which no government exists. Neither extreme can be achieved without exception.
Democracy, for the most part, falls within a relatively narrow span around the middle of the spectrum. Democrats, who align "left" of center, traditionally believe government has a greater responsibility to the populace and for that reason must be larger. This results in more taxation in order to provide more services to the populace. Republicans, on the other hand, are traditionally conservative or "right" of center. They feel government should play a smaller role in the lives of the constituents. Once again, the trade-off here is that the government takes less of your money in tax but offers fewer services.
Recently the lines have become blurred as the current republican president has expanded spending leading many to point to him as a "neo-con" or new-conservative, meaning that only his social views are conservative.
Social views are something which theoretically should be unique to every representative, but as political parties develop social agendas more liberal views have found greater reception by democrats while traditional morality has become connotated with republicans.
Now, if that wasn't clear enough, sorry, but you can't say it was biased.

REPUBLICAN-The Republican Party is the more socially conservative and economically libertarian of the two major parties, and has closer ties to both Wall Street (large corporations) and Main Street (locally owned businesses) than do the Democrats and less affiliation with labor unions. Republicans have a strong belief in personal responsibility, limited government, and corporate entrepreneurship. Republicans generally oppose gay marriage, oppose abortion, and oppose embryonic stem cell research. center-right wing

DEMOCRAT-The party has favored farmers, laborers, labor unions, and religious and ethnic minorities; it has opposed unregulated business and finance, and favored progressive income taxes. In foreign policy, internationalism (including interventionism) was a dominant theme from 1913 to the mid 1960s. In the 1930s, the party began advocating welfare spending programs targeted at the poor. Since the 1970s, environmentalism has been a major new component.
In recent decades, the Party advocates civil liberties, social freedoms, equal rights, equal opportunity, and a free enterprise system tempered by government intervention (what economists call a mixed-economy). The Party believes that government should play a role in alleviating poverty and social injustice, even if that means a larger role for government and progressive taxation to pay for social services. They support gay marriage, abortion, and stem call research.

IN GENERAL -

1. Abortion rights - Dems are for, Repubs are not
2. Right to own guns - Repubs are for, Dems are not
3. Racial profiling and quotas - Dems are for, Repubs are not
4. Dems are for big government and lots of social programs where the government is responsible for providing things for people. Repubs are for small government with less programs and having people (or the individual states) be responsible for providing things for themselves
5. National Defense - Repubs are for larger stronger military, Dems are for a smaller less active military
6. Political correctness - Dems believe that no one should ever offend anyone else and that certain kinds of speech should be not allowed, Repubs believe in freedom of speech and expression

Is this somewhat biased? Sure. It will always be biased based on who is telling you what they think. But it is all about respect - people respecting the fact that others disagree and have the right to their own opinions.

You are going to get a lot of ideologues from both sides answering this one. Democrats are supposed to stand for bigger government, more assistance to the people, etc. while Republicans are supposed to be more about limited government, more self determination for states and the people, etc. However, with the current state of things, all either party does is bow down to the special interest groups who fund their hundred million dollar campaigns. Regardless of who wins, you won't be represented, the special interests will be.

Truly, they represent nothing but what their constituents wants (which is generally corporations and the rich).

Democrats prefer liberalism. The support the peoples right to choose what to do in their life. Pro-choice, less governing, nationalized programs to help out all sectors of life.

Republicans prefer conservatism. Government limits peoples choices to make them do right. No abortion, because it takes life. More governing to prevent "problems" in the system. No nationalized programs because it takes from those who work and gives to those who don't.

Thats about the gist of it.
