My favorite area is around Jackson NH. Close to North Conway, which is all shops and bars and restaurants, but far enough away to be romantic. There are a number of B&Bs and Inns in Jackson. I sent you a link that has a number of them.
We've stayed at the Inn at Ellis River - beautiful! Fireplaces, hottubs, balconies, etc. The hosts are wonderful there, too.
The Cabernet Inn was very pretty, but probably the most uncomfortable bed I've ever slept in!
Nordic Village is more modern (condos), but sports some of the best views if you opt for one of the hilltop locations.
Finally, Nestlenook Farm, is right in Jackson Village...old Victorian charm, horse and buggy rides, the whole package!
We keep heading up there year after year. Romance, the great outdoors, great dining...and you feel so far away from the normal hustle and bustle!

Three words: Meredith New Hampshire
Also visit Castle in the Clouds, just a few miles away in Moultonborough, take a cruise on the Mount Washington, and visit the Wolfeboro art galleries and gift shoppes. All these places are on Lake Winnipesaukee.
On the coast of NH, Wentworth by the Sea is a beautifully restored "Grand Hotel" that is a very romantic place to stay that has a nice spa and has a nice restaurant overlooking the bay. It's just outside Portsmouth, a coastal NH city founded in colonial times that has several well preserved and restored areas like Strawberry Banke. Driving along the few miles of the New Hampshire coastline and the many miles of the Maine coast can also be very romantic. You could also go "south of the NH border" into Mass. and visit the coastal towns of Newburyport, just over the border, and Rockport, on Cape Ann. Both are near some great beaches to have a long romantic walk (Plummer Island and Crane's Beach). Have a wonderful time!!!!!!!
