For example: What do they look like? What do they wear? What are some of the things they are/are not allowed to do? Where do they live? How would you recognize one if you saw one? What is a belief that you hold about them?

For the record, they do NOT practice polygamy!!!

No haters or bashers, please. If I wanted that I'd have posted this question in the religion section.

May I laugh a little? We DO practice birth control. We (my husband and I) definitely see each other naked -- A LOT! 80) and we don't wear special outfits when we have sex. That cracks me up. You have to wonder how ideas like that get planted in peoples heads!

Elizabeth: Those would be the Mormon missionaries. You want to really freak them out? Go up and tell them that somebody you met online said you should ask them about the "First Vision". 80)

Most of us DO play cards. Some of the older and more old-fashioned members of the church don't play cards because they feel it is too closely related to gambling, but it is not doctrine -- just a preference.

We drfinitely DO NOT believe in another Savior besides Jesus!!! Jesus is the one and only. Notice our name "The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints."

Just like anyone else. Or I should say, just like any other person of religion. They don't wear anything different, they look like normal everyday folk. The things they aren't allowed to do are just like everyone...no drinking, no drugs, no birth control, that kind of thing. I do remember hearing once that they aren't supposed to see each other naked (married people, that is) and are supposed to wear a special outfit when they have sex. I don't know how true that is. The one mormon person I know, I don't want to ask her. I don't know her *that* well. :) Edited: Like I said, I didn't know how true it was, I just read or heard it somewhere, and I can't even remember where.... It was so long ago. :) And the birth control thing, I heard directly from a mormon person....they have 4 boys and it was said that the only bc she could use (due to religion) was natural planning....I dunno....Could it be like the Catholics and some Mormons are "old school" and others are reformed to follow an updated set of rules??

Let's see... there was a man who had a vision within the last century, and the result was the Mormon church... hence Latter-day saints, as opposed to the earlier ones.

I've only been to two Mormon services. The folks there were nice, and it seemed like a typical church... EXCEPT that THIS church supported its members... provided funds for those struggling if they needed help making ends meet. It's rare (in my experience in different churches) for people to be so open and free with assistance. There was no guilt involved, just open arms. I thought that was beautiful.

My friends who are Mormon seem to be typical folks... I have no idea if there are any restrictions on them based on their form of worship. If there are, it hasn't ever come up... but we don't exactly lead wild lives... we are teachers, and bank managers, and moms, and techies and a whole bunch of other things.

I don't think I'd recognise a Mormon if I saw one (with the exception of friends). Few carry signs stating their faith, and even less have "MORMON" written in marker across their forehead :)

The Mormon youth missionaries are easy to pick out, and only because they are polite, well dressed and state their business. Again, nice folk. Not pushy at all.

As for what belief to I have about Mormons? Same as everyone else. If I like ya... I like ya. Has to do with the whole person, not just their relationship with the Creator.

Best Wishes... :)

Like many religious groups out there they get a bad wrap.
And like many religions there are good believes and believers who exploit the belief system for their own benefit,
those believers like to twist the beliefs to justifying their actions because after all they will and must be forgiven.

Mormons seem like anyone else. They have their beliefs many do not believe in pre-maritial sex, they believe in marriage and family. The Polygamy is a bad wrap but some do belief that too. They dress like most of us. I

Maybe a better question is what do Mormons have in common with other religions. Sometimes I think we spend too
much time looking for differences rather than similarities.

I don't think you would know one by sight.
I had the pleasure of staying with some Mennonites during my stay at Mayo in MN. They were a good people simple people and yet they thought highly of me suggesting that my long hair was in accordance with the bible.

I just went with their flow no need to disagree with them rather I spent that time discovering what we had in common and focused on that.

There is a presidential candidate running who is Mormon I wonder if that is why you ask the question. He was point blank asked do you believe in polygamy? His grandfather was a Mormon and a polygamist.

I feel religions have a place in many peoples lives. I do not feel one is better than the other rather the variety of rules and suggestions are there to meet the needs of the people if they work and make them a better person in society I am all for it.

The sad part is ALL RELIGONS have memebers who think they can speak for everyone and decide for everyone what is right and what is wrong. But realistically, many of those so called leaders had secrets in their own closets. Every religious group has had their scandals.

Kindness is something everyone undestands no matter where they come from or what groups they belong too.
No matter what language you speak or cannot speak kindness echos in the hearts of those who experience it and
kindly invites them to express that same kindness to others.
Everyone seems to agree on that.

I was taught the Satan had dominion over water (places an increased level of concern into baptism), the face cards of a regular card deck, Tarot cards, Ouija boards or anything that seems occult.

The jury is still out about whether or not the word of wisdom addresses 'cola drinks and caffeine', but luckily everyone still agrees 'chocolate and caffeine' is a good thing.

Sundays: White shirts, dark suits, 50's haircuts and no facial hair for men, knee length dresses, only one pierced earring per ear for women. No TV (on Sundays), no shopping or any activity that requires someone else to 'work' on that day. No phone calls on Monday night when you should be having FHM.

Jello. Copious consumption of green jello. I still don't know why.

These are more traditions than doctrine. Depends on the ward you're in.

I could Care less What Religion you are. Many People have different Beliefs. And Every Religion Gets Stereotyped. As Long as you hold true to whatever faith you happen to be and Are NICE to Everyone. (No reason to believe you try to be mean to everyone) You'll Be cool. Also, The only thing I know is the Commercials are annoying, But only cause they get Played Evertime there is a commercial Break. Other than that I believe Mormons are Flesh and blood just like me.

lol, I really do not know a lot about LDS; I have had ONE experience with one young couple, who were probably NOT the stars of the church. The young man worked with me, and he seemed to feel that as long as none of us were of his faith, it was OK to rip us off in any way he could. (for instance, come in at 6 a.m., clock in, and do NOTHING till 6 p.m.) I do NOT believe that is normal to Mormons, or any other faith; it's just a disease he had, and his wife felt she was entitled to whatever she wanted without working, again, nothing to do with faith. The only reason I know they were Mormon was their constant discussion of what they were going to do or had been doing. I really don't believe they were typical of their religion.

To recognize one if I saw one? Only the missionaries would be obvious, I'm thinking; they usually dress in suits and ride bikes in this area, which makes them stand out considerably amongst the rednecks and farmers, lol. Otherwise, I think Mormons are pretty much normal folk, and look like normal folk!

Mormons don't look or dress any differently than anyone else. I used to work with a Mormon, and the only thing that identified him as such was a ring that he wore. I do know that Mormons like to have big families. My second cousin is a Mormon and he had seven kids. Children are very important to him. Whenever he sees me, he asks me me when *I'm* going to start having kids. I'm not even married.

They are good people, but could be a little more tolerant. I lived in Utah for a long time and was treated very differently than my LDS friends, but I'm sure that's the same no matter where you are if you don't hold the majorities beliefs.
Overall, I have no complaints. My best friend is LDS. But there are a lot of misconceptions out there.

Everyone knows they don't drink or smoke. I doubt most people know that they don't believe in playing cards. By cards, that only means the spotted kind that are used for poker like games, not trivial pursuit, etc. Most Mormons would probably not belong to a bridge club, for example.

I know they're family oriented.

Of the friends whom I've known that were Mormon, they were nice folks.

My best trouble-making friend in high school was Mormon.

Just like any other religious group, there are the nut bags and the normal, decent folks.
