Was just wondering if this was a fact or myth?

As others have said, it's very true they will in fact do just that. It won't harm your fish at all to do this a few minutes every few days, but don't do it too often or for too long as that can cause stress for your fish.

This is true. The Beta doesn't know what it looks like, so thinking that the reflection is a rival fish, it will flare its fins and go into fighting stance. Not a myth. Real live truth.

A fact! Well at least most male Bettas will do it. They tend to think that their reflection is another male Betta so they flare up to and some of the more violent Bettas will actually attempt to attack it.

This is infact true for both males and females. Because Bettas' are natrually agressive, they tend to become intolerant to any vision of others' of their own kind. I don't recommend teasing him/her with a mirror thiough. They tend to stress easily. This can result in sinking and not eating properly.

It is true. Males will flare at their reflection in a mirror. Females not so much.

They will react to a mirror because they think its another fish. Now this is actually very stressful to the fish and if done to often you may end up stressing him out so much that he will get sick or die.

Yep... it is true. They see their reflection in the mirror and are led to believe it is another Betta (Siamese Fighting Fish) invading their territory. They are extremely territorial, and that is why you can't have more than one male Betta per tank... they will kill each other.
