Well how about yes and no. It is realatively safe but it could be intercepted with wifi sniffing software. If the network is encrypted then the safe level increases. Many public spots do not encrypt.

(Apart from obviously ensuring no-one is physically watching what you type) Make sure that

1. Auto complete is not on

2. You delete all history after you have finished (Tools > Internet Options or History > Delete) and you will be ok.
