I think an interest would be something that you will watch and keep track of. A hobby would be where you do something with it. Like you could have an interest in reading news stories about aardvarks, or you could have a hobby of searching for aardvark stories whenever you can.

The difference between an interest in something and a hobby is the degree that you take it...
Perhaps you have an interest in oil paintings, you go to galleries and learn about different artists. The hobby is when your interest becomes to such a point where you might consider yourself more knowledgable about the subject than the average person -- your knowledge may extent to knowing styles of artists or knowledge of the paints used and whether the painting was done on canvas, wood or other media. When you make any interest into a hobby, you are so interested in the subject that you desire to be an expert on that subject.

An interest is something you like to do, but can leave off easily, or something you enjoy doing often but you will not spend much money, time and energy on.
A hobby is much more something you need to do to feel good, sometimes going as far as an addiction, and you spend more time and energy on it, money often too, but not always.
In a hobby you are active, an interest can be passive too.

an interest is something you like to do when others are doing it and you want to be with other people, or in your spare time
a hobby is something you really enjoy and will do it with or without other people just because you want to. and that you will make time to do this no mater what else there is to do.

The Christian faith could nicely be (very sort of speaking) broken down into 2 categories: Catholicism, Protestantism. Presbyterians are one sort of Protestant. so which you won't be able to truly learn the two. you are able to learn Presbyterians to different varieties of Protestants (Lutherans, Methodists, Baptists, and so on).
