Is it because he has a highly fancied job with ESPNSTAR which pays him more and he doesnt want to leave ,or he cant handle the pressures of coaching the Indian team ?He has a bowling and fielding coach to assist him though.

In my opinion Ravi Shastris hesitance to take up the post of coach of the Indian Cricket team lies in his fear of failure and the consequences he will have to face as a result of it.
Presently shastri is respected not only in the media but also in the BCCI.His opinion is considered in most cricket related workings of the board and is always an important member of most internal commitees.
If he fails as coach or rather the indian team fails while he is the coach, then undoubtedly he will be made the scapegoat by the board and press. There goes his position in the board.Additionly his popularity among the common people will decrease( why blame the players when u can blame the coach),which might cause ESPNSTAR to rethink him as a commentator on their "super group".Shastri will then become another forgotten individual in the saga that is indian cricket transforming from a "have all" to a "has been"

Coaching Indian Team is not at all an easy task. If will not be an easy job to handle the senior players in the team . Further, if the Team fares badly, there will be lot of criticism about the coach. Hence the Coach will be always under pressure.

Since he has already got the profession of commentary, which is less taxing, but more lucrative, he does not want to take up the assignment of Coach on long term basis.
