Like I said, I was able to watch a few movies with no problems but now I get a great picture but no sound. I can use a program called VLC Media Player and listen to the sound but it has a very small screen. I was using Windows Media Player, but after upgrading (I think this plays into the problem), I lost the sound.

If you've recently updated Windows Media Player, then be sure to also update the PLUG-INS... :-)

You can use VLC media player in a better manner than windows media player. If you press F key, it goes into the full screen mode and returns back on pressing F again.
If you want to use windows media player only, then check that you have all the plugins installed properly.
