Who do you name your pets after?

Question

I name mine after my family members. I have cats named Charlie Verdo, Clifford Clayton. I even named one cat Cousin Karla! My vet laughed so hard over them names!

Our current 8 cats are named Honey, Baby, Maman AKA Poo Koo, Buster, Not Nadia AKA Cupcake, Tabitha, Spunky AKA Tumbleweed, and, yes, Spice who is also called Plinky.

(Most of them have original music composed for them by my cousin who is a composer. Things like Poo Koo Doll, Plinky at the Window, Baby's Convalescence. Great music for great cats.)

Cats in the past include Stars, Stripes, and Forever who were born of the 4th of July. Fred, Itty, Presh who was also Richard Lewis Willie Precious. I think we get carried away.

Most of the dogs in my extended famiy are named for specific people and it is considered to be an honor.

I named my cat Smokey Joe after this bar I used to go to and my daughter's cat we named Fritz after the porno cartoon Fritz the cat.

my mama bunny's name is Rosie. she isnt named after anyone...i used to call her Rose because i like names en le francais but i thought after a while that Rosie was a prettier name. shes named that because her fur is pretty like a rose and its reddish orange.
the son of hers that lives here is Drake..named after my hunk Drake Bell. hes cute and sweet like him so i thought that was a perfect name for that baby bunny. although hes a bit chubbier than my hunk..haha but i think it just makes him more sweet
Hogan which i gave to my moms bf recently, is named that because i thought he was a girl before so i called him Megan so when i found out Megan was a he i picked a name that would equal the boy version of Megan. i also thought Hogan was good because he is rambunctions, fiesty like the wrestler. i dont like wrestling but its a tough name for a tough bunny.
since Thursday he has been missing (a certain incident caused him to run away) so i worry something happened but i also had a bunny named Joshy. we originally named him Joshy because he was fat like Josh from Drake & Josh (JoshY makes it cutesy, a cute chubby bunny) but after a while he became skinny but it still fits because Josh from D&J is the same way. he lost a ton of weight on the last season just like the bunny did so yeah...i miss that bunny. ):

I try to pick something that seems to suit their personality or looks. For example, we have Karamel (lit. the silly black one - that pretty much says all about him!), Periscope (she had her tail broken at the last joint when she was a baby and it healed crooked and now it looks like a periscope stuck high up) and Coral, who is the color of - yes, you guessed right! - coral :)

I really don't name them after anyone, but I do love unique names for my dogs, I do let my friends name puppies from litters, but I've never named a dog after anyone.

My pets have told me their names with their attitudes. Blackie was black, (Leonardo da) Vinci when the airport got bombed, Tessia (from a name on a tomato truck, Contessa, when I brought her home), Miss Kitty Tigerpants (just came to me since I'd wake up to SpongeBob), Thor (god of thunder, and he acts like it). It just comes to you!
