All countries put their over-riding national interests first.
It is, however, true that America has acted more often in the world's interests then in her own.
.
Thats right.
Think about the creation of the United Nations and where their headquarter building is located.
London?, Beijing?, Paris? Nope it's in New York!
.
Think about who really fought the cold war with everything they had. Yeah, we did it for our self preservation as well,,but?
.
Think about who sends billions in aid every year to poorer countries. Yeah we do this as a form of bribery, but do you see anyone giving the money back?
.
America started out poor but became rich by the hard work of millions of people working together. So stop whining and get busy!

I don't think this is limited to Americans. But I would say that greed and power are the reasons. If only we all gave a crap about humanity as a whole, this world we live in would be so much better. If peace, compassion and love was a priority, instead of war, greed, racism, sexism and so on.
Its a nice dream I like to have every now and then:)

Until and unless we would have one huge world government, EVERY country puts its own interests before anything else.
Look at all the other countries in the world and try to tell me just ONE that puts the humanity as a whole before its own interests. There is not any.
Every country is out to survive, to protect its citizens, first and foremost. And that is how it should be in my opinion.

You would protect your family over a stranger would you not? Other countries have strange customs and we do not see their faces every day, we do not interact with them. It's sad, but we do not really care about them unless they are very similar to us. I've lived in Asia, NA, and EU, so I can see it from a perspective (my dad was working for the military while we were younger).
Whats going to happen if we become a "North American Union"? What happens if we have the "Amero" instead or in line with the Dollar? We will be poorer, and there will be strife, but in the very long run, longer than I care about, it might be better.
If you don't want that to happen, get Ron Paul elected. Protect our values, our security. Let other countries deal with their own problems. America is NOT Mother Theresa.

Every country puts its own national interest first...
We're no more guily of such behavior than China, Iran, North Korea, or Cuba.
I trust the US national interest in free trade and democratic governments over to the petty dictators and terrorists that repreasent the alternative.

I don't give a rat's *** about humanity. Being genetically human doesn't make me morally obligated to all other humans. Study nature. The strong survive and reproduce for the betterment of the species. If you REALLY cared about the human race as a whole, you'd quit sacrificing the strong for the weak.
