Punk's been around for a few decades. At one point, it was original and had a strong social message. Like everything else, it became a bandwagon and lots of people jumped on it.
I think it's going to stick around, even though it's highly unoriginal...just like rap.

Processing power. Some branes have it, some don't. While you or I might be capable of enjoying more intricate, heavily-orchestrated songs like Mr. Bungle's self-titled album, when some people hear this sort of music it's like when you try to start fifty different programs on your computer at the same time. Everything slows way down, and there's just a bunch of little fits and starts. For them, three-chord punk is the only music they can actually experience AS music, in realtime.
Because of this, no, they will not all suddenly get better three years from now. The only way we could hope to improve their musical taste is if science invented some drug that causes your neurons to fire at about triple the normal rate. And really, what are the odds of something like that existing.

Music is a language that everyone can understand. No matter what genre it brings people together. You like Greenday. I like The Pixies or Yo La Tengo and way too many others to name. I am just happy when people find a style of music that speaks to them! As for why people listen to punk music (I listen to older punk), some say it's energy, the edge, or just that they like it. It is all of these things and much more!

Ha ha, bad guess. Did you hear how awful the sex pistols are/were? They couldn't play to save their lives, yet punk lives on. Punk is popular because it is generic, and easy to play. It springs up everywhere, and represents youth betrayed by their parents and government. Some of it has positive messages, some of it has negative, some of it is just plain funny. Check out NO/FX, and I challenge you not to "LOL" at some of their song title/album titles.
Punk is fun, and thats all it has EVER claimed to be. No punk rocker has EVER claimed that their band is talented or their music is inspired by classical composers.
As far as "generic" how do you even tell the difference between most rappers? Why do all boy bands sound the same? Why does every pop singer croon about being in love or falling out of it? Music in general lacks variety and originality, and VERY few bands break the mold. Don't single out punk in this regard.
Have you heard Canadian country singer "Shania Twain" sing and talk with a southern accent? It's ridiculous, get over it, and listen to what you like. I sincerely hope you don't like Chrisian music though, those bands rip off EVERYBODY and change the lyrics about loving their girlfriends to loving Jesus....I hate Christian music.
If you want variety in your music, and it sounds like you do, go to www.shoutcast.com It has tons of radio stations with VERY limited commercial interruption, and you don't have to register ever or give your email address, you just listen and enjoy. I usually listen to a punk stantion or "Otto's Classical Boroque"

I used to be like a lot of people on here. "IF ITS NOT A MILLION BEATS A SECOND AND HAVE INSANE CLASSICAL SOLOS ITS NOT GOOD!!!" Thank God I grew up and got over that.
Historically, I can't name a genre of rock thats influenced that many bands, including metal and pop acts.
I still like bands like Dream Theater and Symphony X, but why can't i listen to MxPx, NoFx, Pennywise, The Sex Pistols, Rise Against, Minor Threat, SOCIAL DISTORTION (I dare you to say that Social D, NoFx and Rise Against sound the same), etc, etc.
Plus, I'm 95% sure, those "classicaly trained and inspired" bands that you listen to, have a copy of "Never Mind the Bollocks here are the Sex Pistols."
Its all a matter of taste. Just because you don't like Punk doesn't mean its not a valid form of art and music.

I love punk music and I understand your question. Punk is a very hard thing to understand if you are not into it. I like punk for the way it makes me feel more than for the artistic side.
Sometimes after a bad day, after listening to a good Ramones album, I just feel much better because it makes me say "I don't care what other people say". Punk really tought me how to not take life so seriously and to relax a little. Also, the punk philosophy its something really amazing when you get to understand it.

First of all, you ignorant little S*IT, you say 3 years before we realize its bad, try three decades of music starting with The Sex Pistols, The New York Dolls, The Ramones, and countless others that WE STILL LOVE.
Second of all, Green Day is a good band in their own right, but were never punk. You saying they were in the 90s further proves how close-minded, and stupid you are. Never let me pass you on the street, as I might have to punch you.
Thirdly, What do you classify as "good music" Nickelback, HInder, possibly Creed? You wanna talk generic? Please let them know you heartless, thoughtless, F*CK.
Long Live:: RANCID SOCIAL DISTORTION CHEAP SEX GENERATION X SEX PISTOLS THE RAMONES THE STOOGES THE NEW YORK DOLLS MINOR THREAT X BLACK FLAG PATTI SMITH AND ALL THE REST!!!
And a BIG FAT PUNK ROCK F*UCK YOU to you

nicely, All Time Low is like punk pop stuff. i think of green Day is punk, rock is like Möntley Crüe or Black Veil Brides, and hardcore is like Suicide Silence or Asking Alexandria. easily whilst it includes genres in music I haven't any thought in any respect what i'm asserting. Lol, I in basic terms say I hear to dying metallic. i do no longer even comprehend. i desire I helped however.

It's the raw energy. When punk first came out, rock was becoming stagnant. A bunch of talented, but boring musicians. putting us to sleep while showing off what they can do with their guitars, drums, keyboards, and God help us, a string section. Bands like Yes, E.L.P., The Moody Blues, and many others, made punk necessary. Every once and awhile, rock music needs to be dragged out of the stadiums and record executive boardroom, and back to the streets and clubs where it belongs. Today is no different, music started to suck, and it punk rock to the rescue. Punk isn't just music, it's a revolution.

Every one is entitled to their own opinion, but before you give up on punk do the following:
Take some time and listen to the Clash. They weren't only one of the greatest punk band, they were one of the greates bands in rock history, IMHO.
Then listen to the Ramones & appreciate the irony of their lyic, the simplicity of their musin (the guitar solo in "I Wanna Be Sedated" is one note repeated), and the raw energy they created.
This should give you an idea of what real punk sounds like.
