Yesterday my husband and I spent all day at a clinic for our son and we met with a dentist during the day in which the dentist told us that our son is a bit delayed with the number of teeth he has. He's 10 months old, has 4 upper teeth, 3 lower with the 4th on the way and where the molars are to come in it's raised and making way for that. How accurate was the dentist to say that about our son? Has anyone ever heard of this before??

That's a bunch of BULL. My son got his first tooth at 13months. He's 16months now and only has 3 teeth. 2 Center top, and 1 center bottom and 2nd center bottom is working on breaking through. All kids are different. At my sons 12month ped. appt., I asked the Dr. if I should be concerned that he hadn't had any teeth break through yet, she said no, but if he didnt' get any by 14months, she would want us to see a dentist for x-rays just to make sure he's got baby teeth. Everything is fine!!!! Just think, your son is already ahead of mine teethwise....=)

Wow! My daughter must be really behind! She is almost 11 months and only has two bottom teeth! Both of my older kids only had 4 teeth when they turned one year. There is nothing you can do about it--they will come in when they are ready. I would not worry one bit about what this dentist told you. There are no developmental milestones concerning teeth.

I have a six year old a three year old and a six month old child. Every child develops differently and at different rates. I dont think it is right for a dentist to give you an answer like that based on average tooth growth. If your baby is Happy and healthy dont worry about it the teeth will all come at their own pace!!

If the the teeth is in the back then particular, that is probable merely th enormal eruption of the six year molar. If that is coming in in the front in the back of the toddler decrease incisors, then that could be a topic... If he's scheduled to work out the dentist in the subsequent 2-3 months anywya, you're pobably ok waiting 'til then. If not, you probable elect to have it appeared at...i won't be in a position to particularly answer for you w/o looking on your son's mouth and/or staring at xrays. Now, in the experience that your son is 5 years previous and would not see a dentist frequently, you ought to get on the horse and get him in anyway...i think of infants shoudl be seen beginning at 2 or 3...the yankee Academy of Pediatric Dentists and the ADA genuinely says 12 months previous! which isn't unreasonable, the two. As for the dentist's spouse above who stated "do not complication"... i'm style of shocked, if basically simply by fact which you may think of she'd be greater cognizant of the place her bread is buttered! Lol... heavily tho', i'm not consistently saying to run to the dentist for each thing, even in situations the place I coudl make a dollar on it... solid success!

Alissa, your son is doing better than my daughter! She'll be 11 mos old on the 30th, and only has her 2 bottom teeth. I'm not worried a bit, I'm enjoying seeing her little toothless smiles. My boys teeth all grew in so fast, I hardly had time to enjoy it. The only way he'd really know if there was a problem would be to take an xray. Otherwise, ignore that moron. I doubt he even has kids.

my daughter will be 7 months tomorrow and she has no teeth. i was 13 months old before i got any teeth but my husband had his first tooth at 3 months. when i questioned my doctor about this he told me all children develope different and when her teeth are ready to come they will and not to worry about it. if your truely concerned about this then i would get a second opinion but i dont think there is anything wrong with the amount of teeth or the developement of your sons teeth. im sure your son is perfect and his teeth will come when they are ready

Generally, it sounds like your dentist is a nut. DId the dentist even have any training in pediatric dentistry.

But, you mentioned being at the clinic all day. So unless this appt was part of some full range of appts & tests, dealing with something like your sons neuro, facial, etc development, then I wouldnt trust him too much.

That's not true at all. I've know babies who were 12 months old and didn't have any teeth yet. All babies are different in how soon they get their teeth. I'm surprised a dentist would even say that, he should have known better.

My daughter went to her 12 month check up with no teeth and they weren't really concerned. She popped her first 2 teeth at 15 months and they seemed like they popped every other day after that. She is now 10 and has beautiful teeth.

Do not be alarmed. Remember that doctors are business men, and will tell you almost anything just to milk your insurance!

Besides, the amount of teeth a kid gets at a certain age is based on averages. My child had the same amount of teeth at that age and now 8 months later he has all his teeth!

So worry not....
