nouns are names of people/things. (specific names ie the name of a person is called a proper noun)
often they act as the subject in a sentence, but are also present as the objects in a senctence as well. all sentences must have a subject.

Put simply, nouns are naming words.eg: dog cat,table, Denver, John Smith. the last 2 are Proper Nouns, so have capital letters. Abstract nouns are like ideas: Love, Honour, Duty etc. Hope this helps
