1991 Buick Regal V6. When de-celerating as in coasting, the engine doesn't decelerate at first, then it does, then it accelerates, back and forth until I have to firmly brake. It happens mostly at speeds over 25MPH...also and this might be a separate problem, I have to put it in Neutral at traffic lights to prevent stall..anyone have anything??

you have a vacume leak open the hood and listen for it it will hiss
its not the trans as it would hard stall (feal like you stoped with out depressing the clutch)

it might something as simple as a vacume leak.go to auto zone and get some starting fluid and spray around the intake gaskets and all hoses and connections and hoses.i have a 88 olds. with a 3800 engine and mine did that too,and i had a vacume leak around the egr valve, also (it might not be nothing, but)have someone put a volt meter on the throttle position sensor and set it for you.if it was the crank sensor,it wouldnt start and also the code would come up.

Have your Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid in your transmission replaced. It's not an expensive job. You may be able to prove that it's bad by disconnecting its electrical connector at the transmission (see link below). Another test is to apply the brake as you mentioned, and the TCC is designed to unlock when you brake.

they are on the right track. I fought this with an Olds cierra for 3 weeks trying to figure it out once. Finally beat my head against the wall and called someone smarter than i was. You did it the smart way and asked 1st, beating the head HURTS lol

It does sound like the torque convertor isn't unlocking properly. TCC solenoid is a good place to start.
