We have some of the richest and some of the most uneducated people in the world. It doesn't make sense sometimes. Our schools fail, but everyone seems to be rolling in the money. We also think we're better than everyone else - I guess I can see why people would be upset by that.
They're also probably jealous that we have freedoms they don't - but moreso that we take those freedoms for granted. It makes us look like we don't value freedoms that many people would probably die trying to achieve.
You can't explain things like freedom and safety to those who have always known it. It's like trying to explain to a fish what wet feels like. We're so used to having a good economy that we just assume it'll always be there - and we take a lot for granted.

MY REPLY TO YOUR QUESTION: You are correct, above, and I would add. People hate America because America lies and is not always fair. If you give people a fair chance at survival, this is true, people WILL NOT hate America.

The problem lies with your political candidates and elected officials, who DO NOT stand for truth, nor do they stand for God in spite of being a born-again Christian or even a Methodist. Such people could have made all of the difference in the world, but chose not to!

The statement that the USA "consumes" nearly half the world's resources is ridiculous. Just do the math.

The reasons for the "overweight" population are interesting as well. Back in the 1950's the government was promoting the five major food groups. It was encouraging Mothers to feed their children well balanced breakfasts of eggs, meat and potatoes along with whole milk and fruit juice.

The reason for this was at the beginning of WWII most recruits were woefully underweight, most likely the effects of the economic depression. Fat babies were perceived to be healthy babies, far more likely to withstand illnesses like tuberculosis.

Then, in the sixties the war on poverty provided lots of nutritious food to the poverty stricken. Now if you notice, we have the fattest poor people of any country in the world.

Consuming resources?

We provide an enormous amount of food to other countries in the world. We provide the technology that provides clean water and promotes hygiene, too. We purchase huge amounts of products produced by other counties providing their labor forces with employment. Our military protects the freedom of all of the world's democracies. We produce and provide most of the pharmaceuticals to the world, as well.

America "consumes" the world's resources? Hell, no. America puts those resources to work for the benefit of the world.

The USA is the world's richest country, thanks to the industry of its people. If only it would devote these huge resources to the welfare of its own people plus a few others the world over, I am sure the USA would be the darling of most countries. But what do we see? Superpower status has made it so conceited, it has decided to take on the role of international policeman, to see threat where no threat exists and to prescribe for others what life they should lead. Just imagine the trillions of dollars thrown down the drain by a megalomaniac president in Iraq alone, the thousands of lives lost at a time when more and more Americans are feeling the pinch of poverty and you may begin to understand why "people hate the USA so much".

Sure we're over consuming. Just imagine what would happen if every country consumed 46% of the world's resources.

we consume because we produce...we feed the world, defend the world, lead the world, teach the world.

there has never been a force of Right and Honor, Decency and Freedom that compares to the US...

typically, when a nation becomes as powerful as the US, it turns its power to aggression and begins taking territory, enriching itself on the lives and lands of others. and dont' spew that crap about 'blood for oil'...Iraq owns its oil fields...we have lost good men making that happen...we have taken nothing in that country, but losses from terrorists who have come to Iraq to fight us there.

At this very moment, the US is spending itself blind attempting to gain security and stability in a region of the world where there has NEVER been either security, stability, or personal liberty.

and the Democrats in the US are fighting against it. why? are they against liberty? not necessarily...it is much worse than that. they are willing to sacrifice the future stability of an entire region, and run the risk of fomenting Armageddon itself, for short-term political gains here at home.

and don't tell me about China...in heavy industry right at this very moment, steel costs are at an historic high because China is buying every last pound they can find anywhere on Earth...thanks to Clinton selling high-level technology to the Chinese thru John Wong et al., we are now facing a juggernaut that feeds on the resources of the world like a ravenous tiger...the only thing China eats faster than resources are the bodies of its own people.

It's because we try to run the world and meddle in the affairs of other countries.

Dr. Ron Paul -
"Too often we give foreign aid and intervene on behalf of governments that are despised. Then, we become despised. Too often we have supported those who turn on us, like the Kosovars who aid Islamic terrorists, or the Afghan jihads themselves, and their friend Osama bin Laden. We armed and trained them, and now we’re paying the price."

When you're at school, do you hate the rich kid in your class simply because he is rich and has everything?. Do you hate him because you feel envy of how rich he is?. Of course not. You hate him because of something else. You hate him because he is arrogant and treats his classmates badly and messes around with other student's business. You hate him because he is so self-righteous, telling the whole class that he alone is right and everyone else is wrong. You hate him because he loves on criticizing his classmates, yet doesn't accept criticism by others. You hate him because he wanted things done his own way, without giving consideration to others who wanted things done in a different way.

Yes, we live very nicely. Makes people so jealous that they spend a lot of time ranting about it on the Internet.
