Have you played before? If not, $700 will definitely get you a great guitar for your needs, whereas if you have been playing say electric for years past, then i would perhaps save up for a more expensive Taylor or Martin.

Also are you looking for purely acoustic or acoustic-electric? I personally prefer acoustic-electric due to the ability for amplification, but that brings in a whole new spectrum.

Also, i suggest buying online, although some people frown upon that. I find it to be cheaper and I have never had a problem with quality. I say go find a music store that carries the specific brand you are looking to purchase, give it a test drive to see if it "fits" you, then continue on with the purchase online.

Anyways, here are a few guitars that fall within that $700 price range, more can be found on www.musiciansfriend.com

Good is a relative question. The average player cannot tell the difference between the sound in a $100 guitar versus the sound in a $3000 guitar. If you are planning on a career, then you need to consider that the better guitars will cost more.

That said, Yes, you can find a decent guitar for a few hundred. Check the Gibson website and you'll see the best, priced from $1500 and up. But as stated, these are not in your price range.

Ok, so where do you look. Check local Pawn shops, and even in the newspaper. You can find real deals. Check them out carefully though to make sure they've been well cared for and have no cracks (cracks=death for an acoustic)

Lastly, I'd suggest you stay away from Ebay. There is no way to check these guitars ahead of time, so you have no way of knowing what the sound is like. Finding the right one may take a lot of time, research and just plain patience, but you CAN find a good guitar for the right price.
