get a leak test done use dye or the electronic test r12 is coming back down in cost and it does work better

i am still confused on how a chemical that is heaver thain air (freon r 12) gets up to the ozone layer to distroy it as there has never been a study on it yet

freon was volentaraly pulled off the market until the study was done
the real reason was they couldent extend there patent so they pulled it so noone else could while they made a replacement they could patent

Even though R12 is expensive, I recommend sticking with it rather than attempting a conversion to R134a. Your vehicle is almost 15 years old, so A/C work can become very expensive (like $1500-$2000) if your compressor should fail and you need to replace evaporator or condenser coils etc. Hopefully, a shop can detect where the leak is. Sometimes you see the refrigerant oil apparent at a leaking connection which may not be that expensive to fix and has several advantages for you. First, you get your system totally evacuated and cleaned up internally while they repair the connection. Then you get filtered R12 reinstalled. You won't be having to recharge with expensive R12 every year because you fixed the leak. Also, you will be environmentally responsible in protecting the earth's ozone layer.
