What is the difference in meaning between the following sentences:

2. b. She FINISHED looking in the jeweller's window.

3. b. Whatever you tried to do, don't try to do it again.

4. a. When we started we thought it might be hard to do.
4. b. We thought the beginning part of it might be hard to do but the rest wouldn't be hard.

5. a. There is very little of all that you have done for us that you can be pleased about. (insult - displeasure)
5. b. The little that you have done for us you can be pleased about. (compliment - happy with the small amount done so far)

6. a. He would like to have been introduced to her, but the opportunity has passed.
6. b. He would have liked to meet her meaning either he said himself that he would have liked to have been introduced to her or someone else feels that he would have liked to have been introduced to her.

1: "I have to tell" ...means "I must tell"
"Ihave something" means "I own/possess something"

2. a. She was walking, then she stopped so that she could look at the window.
b. She was looking at the window, then she stopped looking at the window.

3. For this one, imagine your in your yard throwing a basketball, trying to get it in the net, and it hits your window. Sentence A says that as you continue doing what your doing (throwing the ball) you must make an effort to NOT repeat hitting the window. Sentence B says that you must stop trying to do what your doing (throwing the ball in the net). If you listen to this person speaking, in sentence A you continue throwing the ball, but try not not to hit the window, in B you stop throwing all together.

4. Lets use anothe example for this one. You and your best friend start taking painting classes. Sentence A says that at the beginning, when you started taking the classes, you both thought it might be difficult to paint. The action of you imagining the difficulty took place on the first lesson. Sentence B doesn't say WHEN you two were thinking about it, rather it says that atsome point, you both imagined that the first few lessons would be difficult. In A, "In the beginning" refers to when you were imagining...In B, 2in the beginning" refers to the beginning of the art lessons (or whatever it is tht could be difficult to do)

5. A. "You can be pleased about little..." is the same as saying "you can't be pleased about a lot". In sentence A the person is saying that you haven't done that much good, so you shouldn't feel very good about it. In B the person is saying that you have done very little, but what you did was good, and you should feel good about it.

6. a. He would like (now) to (already) have met this girl.
b. He would have liked (in the past) to meet her.

3a) whatever you did don't do it again b) whatever you tried, don't try it again

6a) Like=present tense b) liked= past tense.
