I'm learning alllll about injection pumps now. I thought I had a rear main seal leak, but its the pump.

What exactly does this pump do?

Would it cause loss of power in the winter and a total doggy truck until is warms up? It still has loss of power somewhat afterwards, but it has noooooo power for the first 10 minutes of driving when its cold out.

Thanks!

You should get this taking care of quickly before you have major engine trouble. What this pump does is supply the engine with fuel. You should take it to a diesel mechanic and get it checked. It could just be the supply pump(transfer pump).Which is what supplies the fuel from the tank to the injector pump. Then the injector pump supplies the fuel to the cylinders. Then again I had a problem with my 7.3 that turned out to be all the sensors that work the accelerator(they dont have accelerator cables). It acted the same way and I also thought it was in the pumps.I also had a 5.9 cummins in a dodge that acted similar to your problem and it was the supply pump(transfer pump). But take it to a professional or personal trusted mechanic, because you can get into big money real fast on these diesels.Supply pump fix $175-$800 depending on where you get the pump.It is usually a dealer only item then depends what dealer you get it from.I got 1 for the 5.9 cummins for $175 from a dealer in the next town.My dealer wanted $425.You could pay as much as if not more than $2000 if it is your injector pump. You usually can come out cheaper having the injector pump rebuilt..Hope I was of some help.
Good Luck
