You know for those of us who want to be professional movie directors, I was thinking, it is hard as hell, what made Steven Spielberg or George Lucas worthy of being in Hollywood, how does a wanna-be actually get into Hollywood, of course 2 ways, have a connection, or kiss some major ***, but for those of us who want to do it the honest hard-working way, how do we get into Hollywood? What would be the ultimate film festival or place to get in the stream of Hollywood, stupidly I should of moved to California, because you have a bigger chance to get noticed if you live in L.A, but most directors lived somewhere else. How does one do it?

Even being in the background would be satisfactory for me, I was told by an actor that school is the least way. School won't help, but thanks for your feedback, that's pretty much what I thought too, and yes, there is so much more competition. I know many actors and directors in the underground B-movie scene, but there is just something extra you gotta have.

I am not whining dumb ***, I am originally from Wi, and I know tons of people trying to make Milwaukee, the Hollywood, and I was also in a movie and of course there's tons of people who get roles in movies and ****, but you stay in that rut, never hitting Hollywood, I want that dream. Does anyone know of any good production companies for horror movies? My friend had his vampire film published and distributed, anyone got any other recommendations? Thanks to all for your feedback!!! & FYI, I am a great writer, this is what I started as, but for some reason writing a script is hard as hell! I can't write short or plain! LOL Well good luck to all ya, currently I am looking for anyone interested in making a movie in Florida. Let me know and I will forward my email! Peace :)

Do what Spielberg & Lucas both did. Be INNOVATIVE! They did things that had never been tried or accomplished in motion pictures. They invented technologies to make things 'magical' on the screen. AND they forged forward like 'bulls' and did things their way, whenever possible. Once you have success, the studios give you more money & leeway the next time and they both used this to their full advantage. They didn't kiss anybody's *** but the audiences. Give the people what they want, but at the same time give them something they unexpectedly wanted as well. You don't have to be gorier, sexier or anything like that to push the envelope a little. The script is king in Hollywood. Make the script all it can be and then film that vision with all it can be. And good luck to ya! :-) And remember, just because, say, Quinton Tarrentino made a career reviving the 'F' word causing even more directors to use the 'F' word, convincing themselves it was 'innovation'. 'Innovation' is telling your story effectively 'without' popular trendy artifacts. If Quinton is 'really' that good, then let's see him do a movie based on 'story' instead of 'language'.

I'd start with one of three things. Go to film school, where, IF you stand out from all other kids, you could get yourself noticed. Or you can move out to Hollywood and try getting a job at the studios doing something else and try to work your way up. That's the long way to go about it, but a lot of directors used to be cameramen or writers or small-time actors.

Or, and likely the best way these days, just get out and buy some equipment and just start making movies. In other words, you have to create something to be noticed. With the internet and digital film-making on the rise, you may start by simply making movies as best you can with the limited resources you have, and start putting them on the web. Save up for a decent digital film camera, and just get crackin'.

That said, the digital film craze has its drawback. There are thousands and thousands of people just like you now, instead of the hundreds and hundreds there used to be. Anyone can make a movie. That means greater competition. Your odds are slim, no matter what you do. But you'll never get it if you don't try. If that's your dream, then go for it. Good luck!

They don't just hire a director, they don't just post an add in the newspaper, all those people started as writers/directors.

They started with writing a story. and it took off . you also have to be creative you don't need to know anybody,
do you think someone is going to read this and give you a truckload of money?

grab a pen, paper and a camcorder and do it yourself,
star wars was not Lucas,s first movie.
I live in Wisconsin and have been in one movie and turned down a leading role in the production company's second movie .

you don't need to move anywhere, let your talent's take you
where you need to go.
be aggressive not whiny.

i see why the director tried to hold them on it. Its Catherine Hardwicke the guy that directed Twilight. wager she enjoyed working with them. I genuinely have seen optimal journey published some circumstances yet never appeared into, finally desperate to look on the plot.....nicely it dont galvanize me plenty, ought to attend and spot what the trailers appear like. yet feels like its no different than maximum different movies, they're prey to something else and combat to proceed to exist, perhaps the preview will make it seem greater exciting.

Go to film school, like Cal Arts or USC.

There are always local film contests posted on their campus bulletin board.

Good luck!
