It is to do with Hitler... It refers to Germany in the years of 1933 to 1945, when it was governed by Nazi Party.
The saying 'Third Reich" or 'third empire' was supposed to be a start of a thousand-Year Empire. The Holy Roman Empire was deemed the First Empire or First Reich, the second during the 1920's.

The 3rd Reich was proclaimed by the 'Nationalist Socialist' Party of Germany in 1933 when President Hindenburg died and Adolf Hitler promoted himself from Chancellor to Fureher of Germany.
The 3rd Reich lasted until May 1945 when the Provisional Goverment of Doneitz was disbanded by the Allied Powers.

The word Reich means 'empire' and it was the third because, before Hitlers' Germany there were two large German empires - The holy Roman empire of the German people (which was actually former western Roman empire), then Bismark's Germany (Bismark was the one that united all smaller German states - Prussia, Bavaria, Frankia, etc., into one large German state. The third Reich was supposed to be a reprise of the first - a Thousand years empire. Luckily, it never happened!

It was his political party...
Check out the following article from Wickipedia:
Nazi Germany, or the Third Reich — officially called the Deutsches Reich and later the GroÃdeutsches Reich — refers to Germany in the years of 1933 to 1945, when it was governed by the Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei (Nazi Party), or National Socialist German Workers' Party, with Adolf Hitler as chancellor and, from 1934, head of state.
The foreign policy pursued by Nazi Germany, based on the concept of Lebensraum, was the main cause of the Second World War.

How truly dense are you? And how many forums are you going to ask this question? Besides here on Yahoo, it's showing up on other websites. Don't you have better things to do than post aimless questions up on websites because you can't think for yourself?
