Hi all,

I've just bought a new PC with 22" widescreen Xerox monitor and Nvidia 7600 graphics card.

I've installed all the drives and it runs fine, the only problem is that when I try and run the machine as 1600x1050 the text on all my documents becomes fuzzy?

I know everythings running well because I've tried a couple of games and they run crystal clear at full resolution with all the options ticked so I know the card is doing it's job.

What can I do to cure this? If I change the screen down to smaller resolution the text becomes clear, but I lose a load of desktop workspace, which was the whole point of buying a 22 inch monitor.

Help please!

First, make sure your refresh rate is at 60 Hz

Next, if you are using an analog VGA cable, put up a screen with a lot of text and hit the auto setup button on the monitor.

If you can, running over a digital DVI link will produce a more consistent image compared to analog VGA.

Next, check your font smoothing setting.

Under XP
Display Properties - Appearance tab - Effects button.

2nd Item - Use the following method to smooth edges of screen fonts - clear the tick box and click OK. Click Apply on the Display Properties window.

Font smoothing deliberately blurs the text slightly so that diagonals and curves in characters do not have jagged edges.

If the monitor is flat screen and has a digital port, and your PC has a digital port, use the digital port instead of vga, (if that's the case). A digital monitor has to convert analog voltages into digital signals. It sometimes causes the situation you're experiencing at that resolution. So, you should try to connect DVI to DVI.

The monitor may not be able to handle that rez.

A lot of video cards outperform even some of the better monitors.
