I have had goldfishes for the past 1 1/2 yrs(60 ltr tank). Veil-tail, shubunkin and 1 month ago got two orandas. They have all been getting on well. Yesterday I noticed one of the orandas on the bottom barely breathing and most of the fins torn(It was completely fine 24-48 hrs ago). I also noticed that the other oranda is constantly chasing the veil-tail.

I am worried that it might nip other fish's tails.Should I return the oranda? I am not sure what killed the other oranda?

Fin nipping isn't the cause of the fishes death, but stress could have contributed. If the fins were not only torn but turning white you may have a case of fin rot. That can also infect gill tissue and cause labored breathing and eventual suffocation.

Look over the other fish carefully for signs of rotting fins, most noticeable being white areas along the tears or pieces coming off. If you see any of that, then treat the tank with an antibiotic. Fin rot is fairly easy to treat and most commonly available antibiotics will do the job.

As for the nipping oranda, you might have to return it as it probably will always behave that way. It's really impossible to get a fish to stop nipping if it's prone to nipping.

The oranda that's chasing the veiltail sounds like spawning behavior. Do you know if that oranda's a male? See this link to find out how to tell: http://www.bristol-aquarists.org.uk/goldfish/info/sexing-fs.htm You may be in for some little goldfish! ;)

As far as the other goldfish's tail, I'd agree with MM on fin rot.
