It doesnt: read, burn,or write, HELP!!! i have checked on the brands website, the model isn't even listed there so I can't download firmware

Was the CD-RW factory shipped WITH your computer? Everyone seems to think you bought an external CD-RW drive. The CD-RW drive that comes with your PC is usually not the same brand so don't bother looking under HP or Dell or whatever computer brand to find the CD-RW drive brand. You may have to open up your computer and look for a label on the CD drive to get the manufacturer and or model #. Once you have that info, you can go to the CD drive's manufacturer's site and download drivers for it.
If the computer is brand new, I don't see why you can't call the company you bought it from and have them send you the drivers or walk you through getting the drivers online. If it's really broken, then you should be able to get a redund or a replacement.

Go to www.pricewatch.com or TigerDirect, CDW, Directron...and purchase a new DVD- Burner (Which does everything) for 40 Bucks!!! I use them had mine for over 2 years and never skips a beat. You will love it TRUST ME!!!!!!
