Its a very difficult situation. Personally, I feel sorry for Prince Harry. He's spent years training for this moment only to be told he can't go. It must be very disheartening to see all his colleagues go and eh must also feel like he's wasting his time. I have a lot of respect for him wanting to go out to the front line and think its good to see the royals finally doing something practical for the country other than increase tourism revenues. However, it is true that he will be a real target out there. I know British troop are already targets but the third in line to the throne is sure to be a very attractive one. I don't think its the issue of Prince Harry's safety entirely though - its an issue f the troops around him and the men he'll be working with. All of them will become major targets if they're with him. Also, the army have enough to do out there as it is without worrying about the extra resources they might need to protect Harry. However, I do feel they should have allowed him to go - if he's never going to be able to fight, what was the point of him ever going in to the forces to start with?

No, why give someone preferential treatment and what message does this send about the value of the life of other soldiers??

Why did Harry then join the army?
Why is his life mor precious than the soldiers' who are there?

Absolutely. Imagine the furore that would have caused - a british prince practically on the front line.....? The bloodshed doesn`t bear thinking about. And i`m sure nobody wants to see young harry paraded on tv like the other poor souls they have captured and butchered.

As an ex-military man, the real question is:

Would we really need to expose 10+ other men to provide security for him, as well as for them selves, and the publicity for the terrorists if the "scored" by killing him or taking him prisoner would be hugh.

The British military have more to do than be "babysitters" for him.

Leaving aside catty remarks, which is all you are likely to get, why send one particular lieutenant who is likely to cause extra problems on the ground? There are plenty of others. No fault of his of course. He probably just wants to be like everyone else. I know I would.

What makes one soldier more "special" than another?
I think they missed as great opportunity for positive public relations. Instead it just shows how the privileged get off easier than the common folks.
