You can not judge them, You do not know what their personal life is like. Personal life and work are separate. However, dealing with mental health issues is a very draining business and this means less energy for issues at home. Being a doctor as well is very stressful on relationships which is why many of them fail. Who is helping the doctors? People do not realize that they need vacations too, time out. How many times have you been upset that your doctor took time off!

Hi,
Doctors are human, just like the rest of us. And think about their profession and what they have to live through every day. Doctors work long hours and they might undergo so many more traumatic and disturbing experiences than would be classed as ‘normal’. Working long hours might also mean a lack of sleep, having to be on-call for emergencies will also disrupt their sleep. Tending to sick, depressed and dying patients is sure to have an affect on their own emotional outlook and their health. Many doctors are driven by a need to help others … that’s the kind of profession they have chosen. They are hard working and many are perfectionists. They expect high standards from themselves and they might get depressed too, when they fall short of their expectations. And what about genetics? Just because they are a ‘doctor’, it doesn’t mean they don’t share the same genetic problems as other humans. There may be mental illness or alcoholism in their family. It is very possible doctors will be less inclined to seek help when they are down because like you say, they are the ones who are ‘supposed to be helping others’. They might be concerned about their privacy or their reputation. If someone commits suicide, this is a person who is suffering terrible despair. If this person is a doctor, they are suicidal and they just happen to be in the caring profession.

Doctors are human beings the same as anyone else and they have the same feelings and problems that we all do. However, I believe in addition to all of this, the sickness and death of their patients becomes too much for them. I believe that the ones that comitt suicide are the ones that become too personally involved in a case and somehow believe that they messed up and could have done something more for the patient. Or maybe it was a personal problem...

Doctors are human just like the rest of us and live stressful lives. They are prone to depression, anxiety and everything else just like we are. I guess they too sometimes reach the point where they just give up.

Because they have to listen to problems, heal plus they have to keep in check with confidentiality, etc. so they can't talk to anyone and let it out.
