If you use Windows XP: Generally, people do not set up the password for their Administrator account. So, when starting up the computer, before the Windows Boot Screen, hit F8 on the keyboard. Select the "Safe mode" option. You will be presented with the Welcome screen, and "Administrator" should be one of the usernames to choose from. If there is no password on it, you should be able to click it, and get in. Then, you can go to Control Panel -> User Accounts, and change the passwords. Restart, and log in normally.

1. Open your computer in safe mode. 2. You Would see an account named "Administrator", log into it, it has no password. 3. Run command prompt, or click start and search "cmd". 4. In command prompt, type net user [locked account name] * hit enter. It would say, enter password: type the new password. (the new password won't show up on the screen, not even asterisks. But it would be there!!!) hit enter. It would ask confirm password: enter the same password again. Hit enter. And it's done!!! Now log into your locked account with the new password! Remember, "[locked account name]" means the name of your account which is locked , i.e, my account name is hitman. Your's might be somethin else, and remove the square brackets also!!! ;-)

Most people forget or let the administrator password empty.if u r on xp / 2000 restart computer. Hit F8 when its loading up (Hit it a coupple of times if u not sure) choose safe mode and if it askes u for a username and password enter Administrator and let password empty. If it lets u in then u r lucky and can change the existing userpasswords. If it doesnt ask for it at startup then search for change user or logout current user to sign in with administrator. With win98 or me simple hit the esc button and it load up.Go to control Panel to change the pw there.Take only out BIOS pws if you have knowledge about BIOS. Else it may will erase your complete Bios Settings. Not sure if u ment Bios or a System Password. Hope this helps a bit

If you can boot the system, BIOS password recovery is usually easy. The first thing you will want to do is to use a BIOS password cracker to recover the actual password. There are a large number of BIOS password crackers available from a variety of sources. Some BIOS crackers only work with certain BIOS versions and some work better than others. You may have to try a number of crackers before you find one that works.

Some BIOS’ have pre-installed backdoor passwords that enable access to the system if you have lost or forgotten your password. Attempting to regain access to the computer by using one of the following backdoor passwords should be your first step if you have lost or forgotten your BIOS password and cannot boot your computer. If you are able to regain access to your system by using a backdoor password, you can then use a password cracker to reveal the stored password or enter the BIOS setup to change the password. These backdoors are more likely to work on older desktop systems. We are not aware of any name brand laptops or notebooks that have backdoor BIOS passwords.

At boot-up note the BIOS provider (Award, AMI, Phoenix, IBM, etc.)

For Award BIOS’ try these backdoor passwords:

AWARD_SW
j262
HLT
SER
SKY_FOX
BIOSTAR
ALFAROME
Lkwpeter
j256
AWARD?SW
LKWPETER
syxz
ALLy
589589
589721
awkward
CONCAT
d8on
CONDO

What password are you trying to reset? If it is the system/CMOS password--i.e. the one you get before even the BIOS screen or POST beep happens--then just check the manual for a the password reset jumper, change it, turn machine back on and voila you're done. Just remember to shutdown and go back in a reset jumper. If no jumper, then take out the CMOS battery for about a minute and replace it then turn machine back on.
If, however, you mean the password used to access some bit of software on your machine, unless you know how to code and can hack your own system, odds are you're going to have to take it to a shop and see if they can do anything for you.

unless you made an account for yourself as a user you are out of luck. I messed up once and locked myself out but because I created a user account with administrator abilities I was able to go in with safe mode, log in as the admin and correct what i did.

Be very careful mucking around with stuff when your not confident that you know exactly what you are doing! I tried that, and ended up locking myself out completely, had to end up taking to a computer tech. in the end to fix it...
