Too many applications trying to start when you start up your computer.

I hope you have back-ups? That way, you can at least save current files saved before this whole thing happens. That reminds me to do mine again.

Try starting up on safe mode. Then when finally you get it to start, get online and send files you need saved to yourself (your emaill address).

Try other methods, research from library computers, then go from there.

Good luck. I know how it fels when you "lose your friend (your pc)".

Yes, you're new Windows cd w/sp2 should work. Unfortunately, the Windows cd's don't help with virus problems. For that you'll need to buy a good antivirus program like Norton or McAfee. They have recovery programs built into the software and probably can clean your drives without reformatting. Good Luck!

If the version of windows you bought came with a COA key, then it will work.

Other wise you will end up calling microsoft for new number.

If you are going to do a repair install, which may work. It will fix the start up issue as long as you removed the virues.

When you put the disk in and boot from the Windows disk. Bypass the first repair, go on to new a complete install. At that point it will ask you if you want to repair the current Windows you have installed

*something I just thought of, if you had a restore point set. Have you tried restoring to a earlier time?

When ur system contains viruses and is not booting up it is better to format the system.
U can take backup of ur files present in C: drive by following the steps below
Boot the system with Windows 98 bootable CD.
Select the option 'Boot from CD'
Select the option 'Boot from CD with CD ROM Support / MSDOS Mode'
U will get A:, Type C: and copy all the files to D: drive
