Paris Hilton will serve about half of her 45-day jail sentence and will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities say.

The party-loving hotel heiress will spend about 23 days in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Centre in Lynwood, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Her sentence was shortened after jail chiefs gave her credit for good behaviour, Whitmore said. Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said.

Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile prisoners, he said.

Like everyone else in the 2,200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said.

It is good to see that vast sums of money do not always prevent the law from taking its course. Imprisonment in a specialist unit is obviously appropriate as Miss Hilton would otherwise be subjected to extortion by the other inmates.

He wont pardon her cause most likely she wont serve much if any of the 45 day sentence.Michele Rodriguez of lost was sentenced to 60 days last year and only served a few hours before being released due to overcrowding. P. Hilton will do the same. it's too bad cause if anybody deserves a reality check its her.

I think she is no better than anyone else that breaks the law. However, I don't think she should get preferenntial treatment. Put her in with the rest of the inmates. They probably "shortened her stay" cause they don't want to put up with party-loving socialite with her arrogant and conceited attitude. They might give her an "attitude adjustment."

I don't know how you can have "good behavior" until you actually get to jail but money talks.
I hope she serves something - an actress(from Lost) was recently sentenced to 60 days at the same facility. But the facility said it was too crowded and sent her home after 2 hours.

I think it's a joke. Celeb's get off with this sort of stuff all the time. Why should she only serve half of her term? And why should she have special privileges in prison? Like these people don't get enough special treatment as it is! None of us mere mortals would get away this lightly and I think it's a sad world when even our laws bow down to 'celebrities'.

Are her issues going to be addressed, in that period of time? I suppose if she is a quick learner then the twenty three days might be enough time for her to grasp the idea of what her habits are doing in and to her life as well as placing other peoples lives at risk just by being near her.

I'm surprised that she'll actually be going to jail at all.

Ridiculous that showing up for your court date counts as "good behavior" and lessens the sentence. Seems like that's something that applies only to Ms. Hilton.

Then again, her offense was far less serious than O.J.'s...

That orange skinned monkey-toed celeb-utante should be treated like any other Californian citizen who did the same crime. Time off for good behaviour - give me strength - she's not even in jail yet. It makes a mockery of the US judicial system.

It should a week in the stocks, followed by a public flogging, and then 100 days in the slammer - simply for being Paris Hilton!

Ms. Hilton's only reason for existing is to be adored by her fans.

Maybe the biggest punishment she's had is to see that more people signed the petition to lock her up, than the one to let her out.
