I've bought a beautiful Italian plate, around 16 inches in diameter. Unfortunately, I can't find a way to hang in on the way so that it's flat. As it's quite deep, normal wire plate hangers aren't working - they make it stick out at a funny angle. I've also tried this glue-on hanger from John Lewis, although it wasn't strong enough to take the weight of the plate. Any ideas?

.One idea is to fix a wooden shelf to the wall, into the wood can be cut a groove into which the edge of the plate sits to prevent it slipping off the shelf.
Buy putting up a large shelf this leaves you space to add more plates that you collect in time.

Visit a local D.I.Y. store or Home-Furnishing store to get some good ideas of how to display the plate.

With time, those spring loaded clips actually damage the glaze of the plate, and by sticking something with glue to the plate you damage the item and lower its value as a future collectible.

If in rented accommodation there might be a ban on fixing things permanently to the wall, get the owners permission first.

Get somebody with experience to mount the shelf to the wall using the right screws and wall plugs to hold it firmly in place, if the wall is in plasterboard you will need special self expanding screw-holders, again a trip to the D.I.Y. should see you sorted.

I would install a clear glass shelf, and display the plate on it.My choice is glass shelf because you don't want anything too visible that will take away from the plate itself
