TV detector vans are bunkum, if someone turns up at your door and demands to see your license you can refuse. Not a single person has been prosecuted who has refused to show their license - FACT. Who is going to join me and refuse this year ?

I heard on a rival radio station an interview with a guy who hadn't paid for years since he discovered no-one who refused entry and refused to show their license had actually been prosecuted, 100% of those prosecuted put their hands up and claimed they had no license.

Problem is just from those above no-one is willing to take a risk with us. Together the ants can conquer the elephant

That would be up to the Scottish government, if independence happened (and I strongly doubt it will happen). People in the Republic of Ireland do not pay a BBC TV License, any more than other countries outside the UK e.g. France do. They may be able to receive BBC channels (via aerial or satellite), but that's just a bonus rather than something they pay for via fees. After all, TV signals are only bound to the laws of physics, they don't respect national borders.

I seem to be in the minority here but I agree that we should have a license fee but not at the current level, if you just for a single night compare the quality of the BBC programmes to the most of what else is out there then the quality just doesn't match nor come anywhere close. The fee is way too much and that is the fault of the Fat Cats money-grabbing as much as they can. We in Britain have a unique TV service where most of the ordinary workers are dedicated to producing quality programmes unlike other countries where the only thing that matters is the ratings and income. It's an unpopular stance but it's my stance and I don't apologise for it.

If they had good TV I'd be willing to pay.... It's certainly better than American TV which has a lot of commericials every few minutes. However a lot of the stuff on there is crap and has been dumbed down for stupid people. I dont think it should be forced on people though. The BBC should be a suscription service like NTL or Sky that you only pay for if you want it. I also don't like their left wing political stance. They claim to be independent but politically they lean too far to the left on most occasions.

No, I'm too law abiding. I pay it and I don't even have a television at the moment.

It fizzled on Saturday (just before Eurovision actually - I've put it down to self-defence) and I decided I wasn't getting another so I emailed them to cancel. Then on Tuesday, I decided I couldn't live without seeing David Tennant's sweet face on Saturday so I ordered a one from Grattan. I've already reinstated the licence. Not Sky or Blockbuster, just the licence.

Not at all happy about paying for a TV licence for repeat programmes on a continual basis, but don't want to end up in court either for non payment so I will stick to paying it for now.

I do pay only because I was getting handwritten notes saying they called on such and such.

I think it is a total con and I really don't know how the government expects us to keep on paying the continued rises in everything.

I avoided paying for several years but got caught out as my Mum was visiting one day and she wanted to watch a Bob Monkhouse quiz show at full volume.
I've hated the guy ever since (and yes, I know he's dead).

I pay, but begrudge doing it, why can't we just have adverts on the bbc, like itv, surely thats a better way to make money, itv always has the best shows anyway.
