My best friend used to be obviously stressed, over reacting to the normal worries of life and snapping at people and generally getting wound up. around them. lately they remain outwardly more normal, , but have terrible sleep problems and migraines. They swear they keep examining their life, but conclude that it is pretty good and cannot identify what the cause is. Are the burying the truth in their subconcious, are they depressed, or are they mentally ill?

Sleep problems and the other symptoms you mentioned are all signs of depression. It sounds like your friend is trying to work through these things on her own. Sleep deprivation can cause a person to be snappy and irritable also and migraines can basically paralize you for hours. I would suggest they see a Doctor to get help for these problems and she will feel much better.

Both because depression and mental illness are the same. Often those with mental illness cannot identify a cause. Some time therapy can help but they have to admit to themselves that there is a problem to get help.
Stress presents in many ways and they may be putting on a front when they are with you. Please be patient and not to pushy with them because they will end up resenting you for it. Especially if they are tired because this will effect their mood.

The best thing for them to do would be to see a doctor he/she will be able to investigate a bit more and see what the cause may be.
I know you are worried but remember don't push the issue to much in the end that can cause more stress. Your friend needs to admit to themselves there is a problem before they can go for help.

Headaches can be caused by minor problems
like eyestrain, lack of coffee or more serious reasons
like head injury, brain tumors, encephalitis and
meningitis. Taking painkillers continuously can
have harmful side effects, so it is better to
modify your lifestyle. More information available at
