all i know is that with some of the statues today that have missing limbs, the statue was damaged due to natural wear and tear or mishandling (caused by theft, war, etc.). also, during the time of the crusades, christian crusaders would storm temples that house such statues and destroy the statues because they propagate pagan belief or rather paganism which the christians at that time were trying to eradicate. perhaps, you could read up on the crusades a little bit and find something about that.

I have never heard of such a movement. I think you are confusing the broken sculpture, with an art movement. Classical Greek sculptures had some broken arms because of war.
