I'm assuming you're asking for a starting battery for a boat motor. If you're using it as a dedicated starting battery, then a small auto battery from walmart, autozone or even a marine starting battery at West Marine. If you are using the battery for things like electronics and instrumentation when the engine isnt running, you need to get a dual purpose battery that will run both.

If you're using a starting battery for extra stuff when the engine is off, then it may not have enough juice to start the engine.

The difference is that a starting battery will have a lot of amps, but the voltage will drop quickly. A deep cycle battery will have a lot less amps, but the voltage drop will be very gradual. A dual purpose battery will be a mix in the middle where it doesnt have as many amps as a starting battery, but the voltage drop will not be nearly as steep.

IF you are using this for an electric trolling motor, then Deep cycle is what you need.

If you are looking for an electric boat motor that runs on a battery, go to a marine store. West Marine, BoatUS

Electric propulsion motors need a deep cell battery. Some people use a golf cart battery.

Any marine supply house, such as West Marine or BoatUS will have electric trolling motors. If you're looking for a primary motor, there are just a few available and generally only as part of a boat/motor package... They are very expensive per horsepower and not very practical (I think). You can move quite a large boat with one of the larger trolling motors with 12V or 24V batteries, but don't expect to go fast.

anywhere they sell batteries, the best kind to buy for an outboard motor is a marine battery. This type yu can run it right down again and again and it will keep on recharging without killing it. Where as a auto battery will eventually die from being discharged and recharged. Little more expensive but worth it.

Believe me I know the cheapest and best WALMART.
you can buy 5 batteries there for the price of one of the
specialty batteries bought elsewhere , and they last as long.
