I am writing a book titled:
My Thoughts, Fears, and Angers
It is a collection of poems, songs, and essays that I have written, about my life and the fact that i am gay, which is something I have struggled my whole life with, and now I have HIV, so the book covers all these issues.
However, I would like to include two essays, written as an answer to this question, which I will chose. I want one from both perspectives, however, nothing full of hatred or anything like that, but two essays that are well thought out and expresses your opinion on this issue. Each one will have the author's name included, so that he/she will get full credit for their answer, and I will send each one a signed copy of the book when it is published, which I hope is sometime around the end of summer.

Thankyou.

Just to help some you of along the way, I have stated before, sexual prference, either straight or gay, is not a choice that any of us make, but the way we are born.

Alright, this is a good start. However, for all of the religious people, all I can say is that I have a great relationship with God, I do believe in Him, and have spoken to Him many times before.
What I want is 2 essays that show people's views on this subject, so don't be scared to write a lengthy one, a'right. Give me something that is thought provoking and makes people go:
"HMMM, good point, I had thought about it that way."
Also, for the religious people, I already now where your argument will come from, so that will be no surprise, but for the gay side, that is the one that is going to take some indepth, insightful thought.

So, far Bat's is the best anti, however, I'm still looking for a good one from the gay community. Please do not use as an excuse to attack each other, it is time for open, honest dialoge on this subject, I believe.
Also, I have given everybody a thumbs up that has answered so far, and will give one to each answer.

GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

First I must say that I am kind of straddling the fence on homosexuality. I have a difficult time believing one is born that way and have yet to find anything that proves that theory. However, I have many friends and relatives who are gay and the fact that I know these people makes me wonder about the theory. I mean with all the hate crimes towards gays, who would "choose" that lifestyle. I know that if my son one day came to me and told me he was gay, I think I would choose to believe that theory.

There are times I think that a gay person should not be living that lifestyle, but at the same time I think everyone has the right to find true love, and not all "straight" people lead great lifestyles either. As a christian, the bible says homosexuality is a sin and God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because of the sinning (not only homosexuality). As christians we are taught to love the sinner, but not the sin. The reality is that all of us sin in some way or another. Even christians do and even though we have accepted Christ into our hearts, we never stop the sinning, it is impossible to do because we are not perfect.

I choose to live my life as being accepting of every human being on this earth. We have many differences, but getting to know someone of a different race, religion, culture or lifestyle, etc. only makes us better people from what we can learn from them.

To put it simply it is not for me to pass judgement on anyone, that is for God to do and each person must decide for themselves the path their life will take.

I love people like God loves people (to the best of my ability as a sinful natured man). It doesn't matter what you've done or going to do, God loves all. He hates sin. That's why He had to turn away from Jesus when He was on the cross. Being homosexual is sinful but, so is stealing, murder, and lying.

Here is a scenario just to prove being homosexual is wrong without using the Bible which is God's Word.

There is an island with 10,000 homosexual men on it. 5,000 miles away there is an island with 10,000 homosexual women on it. 5,000 miles away from the other 2 islands is an island with a 5,000 heterosexual men and 5,000 heterosexual women on it. There is no possible way of getting off any of the islands. After 200 years what is the population of each island?

to be honest i'm gay and i sure as hell didnt choose it there are a lot of times i would much rather be straight but first of all im not attracted to women and why straight guys have to make stories i am not sure but relying on god to do their dirty work is a sin of its own most of the people making these quotes have never read the bible or only taken parts of a passage/verse wich would have had another meaning if read as a whole there are ALOT of jokes towards the gay community envolving the bible adam and eve not adam and steve G.A.Y got aids yet and to be honest they are funny AS A JOKE they were put together well and none of it is true instance one in the story of adam and eeve it states in no way that he is against homesexuals if god only had created men and women for child birth then that would condem women with pregnancy or health issues that do not allow them to have children it would also condone anticontreceptive desivises (etc tying of tubes condoms anti sperms and (abortions another topic))as for men it would couver the same topics therefore that statement has nothing involving the gay community.

as for got aids yet there are 2 main reasons i hold myself and you are free to argue them GAY was not a word intended or created to name gays it was intended as a word for happiness and it is not involving the gay community in anyway except it is modernly excepted as a name for their community another reason is that aids was not originally on man it was belived to come from animals in africa such as monkeys wich is where native african's got the disease and how it spread and it then spread to the first invaders the other reason to why it wasnt created by god to smite gays is because more straight people die of it then gay's as a matter of fact there were gay people long before aids had even infected man many a person has cased as gay lezbian bisexual or transvestite in early civilizations of man

not only humans show this case you are born gay in my opinion because there is gay attraction in almost any living form and if you want to get technical microrganisms never did mate they split themselves into smaller speedily growing coppies the way male and female prduce children was just the way more complex organisms could breed therefore man and women

back to the bible alot of the information used against the gay community is misinterpreted from the bible hitler used the bible to detest jews it was used to detest masturbation and multiple other objects over the years since the creation of the bible it has passed many hands cultures and tongues some languages hadnt had a meaning for words in the original bible therfore having to use so called duel words wich mean two different words in sub cultures and when the bible has first been presented by modern day there were alot of words that had been lost over time so the new languages put words in there that would fit the story psalm or verse from wence they were reading

thanks -Hydden

Isn't it time we got off our knees and stopped bowing to Gods in the Heavens? I mean, I can see people doing this 2000 years ago, but, come on, this is 2007! If believing in a God makes you happy then do it, but don't put God in government to make laws against people's (gay or otherwise) basic rights. We still live in a very primative world. Does a flower go to heaven?

Yes it is, But there are far worse things that are damming in the eyes of god. Like a gay murderer killing someone compleatly overshadows the fact that they may be gay.
Being a good person, helping others and doing as god commands will hopefully be enough to overshadow being homosexual.

Look basic point is god loves all his children, all fathers however may love there children but may not condone certain activitys. example your situation- god loves you but does not like your behavior.

i cant really answer all that well because i don't believe that god exists. However, if he does.... didn't he create us? And aren't we all his children? And doesn't he forgive all? So.... even if homosexuality is a sin, when we reach the pearly white gates of heaven we'd ask for forgiveness and in we go BUT if i had to ask for forgiveness because I'm gay, I'd rather go to hell. lol
All the best on your book, sounds like an interesting read, when you get it going could you email me the title etc. My email is on my profile. Cheers buddy and all the best :)

I don't think it's so much a question of BEING gay as it is ACTING gay.

It seems more and more that homosexuality is a natural phenomenon as opposed to something that is somehow learned (I'm not completely bought on that theory, but anyway...). If this is true, than it is no different the rest of the elements that make human nature as sinful as most religious individuals would claim it is. It is no secret that God condemns homosexuality in several passages in the Bible (as early in the collection as the book of Genesis), but if you actually turn out to be gay, it should simply be a matter of keeping it to yourself.

A member of my own family is a compulsive liar (and quite an excellent actor, making his lying all the more potent and believable). God hardly smiles upon this sort of behavior to be sure, but within recent years, he/she has been taking extra steps to make an honest living once again, as near as any of us can make out. The same course of action should be applied to homosexuals if they are worried about spiritual matters (as your question would suggest). If they feel homosexual urges, they need to supress them and keep them to themselves. They should not try to lead a heterosexual lifestyle (wife, kids, the whole bit) if they don't feel inclined to since that would be living a lie, but neither should they actually engage in homosexual acts if they are worried about whether or not God's watching. A life of celibacy is difficult, certainly, but they wouldn't be the first.

EDIT: No, there's a BIG difference, hot sh!t. Don't attack me just because my opinion differs from yours. If homosexuality is a sin (which is stated a LOT in the Bible), it's up to gays to figure out how to be as unsinful as possible. The Asker asked if being gay is being against God, and I answered an explanatory yes. I even went so far as to cite an example of my own personal life to illustrate my point. What do YOU have to offer in this discussion?

EDIT: "So, far Bat's is the best anti"
Thank you, keither. We're ALL sinners in God's eyes, so the last thing that I want to do is raise myself on a pedestal, which I assume everyone who thumbs-downed me thought I was doing. You asked about God, and I said what I thought; just because a homosexual is a sinner (and possibly from God's own hand like the heteros of the world), it doesn't mean He doesn't love you.

People cant help being born Gay, they didnt choose it for themselves, its like being born tall or with no arms or black or white, there is no difference. God loves ALL people so if you are gay then God loves you too.
