i'm thinking of formating my laptop!
though the thing is i dont have any of the driver's cds..
the good thing is i bought a software online tht could backup all used drivers to anywhere i want to so i guess tht problem is solved..
though the thing is im worried bout the special features tht the laptop has!
like showing me the temperature of the cpu and so on..
and using the keyboard shortcuts.. like (play/stop/www/refresh/search/favorites/mail/mute/my computer/calculator)

and those softwares tht help me set a profile for the laptop when its on electricity or using just its batteries...

Knowing what hardware is in that laptop is VERY essential.

If you don't know, you may want to try Belarc Advisor.

You can get it free at www.belarc.com

Once you know what hardware you have, ensure that you can download all the drivers for that hardware and burn it to a CD.

Okay, so drivers have been nailed, next thing is -- your personal data. Do you have any pictures, text files, documents, music, videos, etc. etc. etc. that you need to backup? If yes, then do so. If no, skip this.

Drivers.. personal data... and now onto software. Now as you know installed software for win9x and up are built into the operating systems registry. That means if you copy the directory that they were installed in (like for example the program files\(insert software title here) directory) they won't work because they're missing the system registry entries. Just be sure you can get the software again so you can reinstall it. You can look at add/remove programs in your control panel for a listing of all the software installed. Write them down or just make a screenshot(s) (ALT + PRTSC) , open paint, paste it in paint (CTRL+V), save the file as a jpg, back up the jpg onto a CD.

Once you've got those 3 covered.. the last thing is, having the operating system to reinstall. If you're doing a full installation of Win XP Pro (for example), make sure it's the full version and not an upgrade.

That's pretty much all I can think of. Hope that helps.

First off: do you have a problem now to format the laptop?
If yes, then I suggest useing Norton Ghost to make a full image of your C: drive, you can copy it to a DVD or an external hard drive - it's pretty easy, this way you'll be on the safe side if something goes wrong.

On the otherhand, you can try www.driverguide.com to find all the laptop original drivers.

Hey, also check if you have the operating system & drivers preinstalled on your hard drive, IBM sometimes do that with pc's and laptops, other makers also - no cd's come with the machine, all on the HD, this way you only have to boot to a special menu to reinstall original operating system and drivers.

the thing you should do first is go to the website of the manufactures ask support where and how to reinstall windows with all the computers systems drivers if you do not have a systems backup cd then you should have a hidden partition on the hard drive that holds all the restore systems data (drivers)

never just jump in and format the hard dive cause with out the drivers for the motherboard, cpu, and other hardware it will not work as it should

Firewalls, is what I always suggest to my friends.
control software application load ups, preferences and security, before you start.

I am not a fan of ad and spywares and that is because I have set passwords and access (no one else can open/start up my computer but me), get full control of your networked computers, if any....
When online, I just set my pop-up blocker and applications dont start withour my keychain password. A little "hassle" but it's worth it.

Hope this helps.
