World opinion is largely irrelevant.
People are influenced by what they read and see from media that are biased and which are not in any way controlled by Americans in government or in the public.
Most people who hold negative views about America have never been to this country and have had little or no contact with Americans. To worry about what they think is a waste of time and energy.
American leaders should try to do the right thing, not just for America but for all people. It won't be appreciated and largely it won't be known by most of the people in the world. But that's okay. We have enough on our plate right here at home.
I don't mean to suggest we should not try to do things other people will appreciate. We should always try to do those things, and largely we do. Who helped when the tsunamis hit a few years ago? Who sends food and aid whenever there is a disaster? Usually it's America. Do most of the people in the world appreciate that? Not really. Most never hear about it.
So it isn't worth spending a lot of brain cells worrying about.

Some Americans do care, but most don't. However, it really doesn't matter. Just as the 19th was the European century, the 20th was the American century, the 21st century will belong to India and China.
But this is the thing: more and more, the world does not care about American opinion. They are only 5% of the world's population, even though they use more than a quarter of the world's resources. Let's leave them to stew in it, and get on with our own lives - they are irrelevant.

Fox news is the lap dog of the current administration, they arent even accurately reporting 1/2 the time. They reported several times that "weapons of mass destruction were found in Iraq" to back up the invasion they were so clearly for. They never retract their false reports either they just stop repeating the info.
I know people here care what the rest of the world thinks and hell a good amount of us are humiliated by the actions of the powers that be. You might be meeting a few more "Canadians" traveling abroad then usual.

I'm an Independent, does that make me a Liberal ? I used to watch Fox News, but after a while, I came to realize that they aren't " fair and balanced " and more often than not would express their own opinions. I have since switched to the mainstream media, who I find to be much more informative.

The trouble is the americans poke their noses into to many peoples business instead of looking at their own house first. They wind a lot of people up and think they are Gods chosen people. Ha and we all know that they only think of themselves. That is pretty evident.
A high proportion of problems in the world are generated from America in the first place because they cannot keep their noses completely out of other peoples business at times when they should think more and be a bit more diplomatic.

World opinion has always been and always will be against America. No matter what we do, no matter how many countries we go in and rebuild, we will always be considered evil. If you use the internet at all, you have probably seen comments like "Fat Americans are worthless, blah blah...". Either having a high fatty rate affects people in other countries, or people just need something to whine about. The best one is the war on Iraq effect. If Americans are warmongers, then why did our opinion polls say that %80 of America was against going to war only 1 day before Bush came on TV and stated that we would be going to war anyway. Like the pres. asks the average guy what to do.
No matter what country you are talking about, assuming that %100 of the population acts a certain way is just sterotypical racist nonsense.

Given that the majority of Americans don't own a passport, it isn't that suprising they don't give a monkeys about other countries or their opinions.
Until 9/11 most Americans thought the whole world loved and admired them, and most of them I have met, before and after 9/11 say "why should I care about other countries?"
Sad.

Fox news? It is always bad to just use one source to form your opinion on anything. It is twice as bad when the source you use is Fox news.
The U.S. is like any other place. Some people care about world opinion and others don't. Do all Britons care what Americans think about them? Do all care what anyone else thinks of them? Of course not. Some care, some don't. With millions of people you are going to have a diversity of opinions. Fox news only presents one side of the argument and that is the pro-Bush, pro-war, America first rah-rah-rah argument.
