If so, the word LOVE is not valuable.

The use of the word "love" in multiple situations does not diminish its value; it makes its value multidimensional.

If we have a strong, passionate feeling for someone or something within a certain category (friend, movie, pet, food) it means we love the object in that category to the full extent that we can as bound by the limitations inherent in that category.

That essentially means that the "love" that we feel for a food can never transcend the "love" that we feel for a friend which, in turn, cannot exceed the "love" we have for a soul-mate.

The value of the use of the word is inherently limited to the object to which it is applied but it is still of value.

Just because someone says the word love for many different things, doesn't mean the word itself loses value. You can love and have "strong" feelings for different things without anything having to lose it's value. You can feel strongly for friends but not in a sexual way...the same goes for fruit and movies...don't you agree?

The word "Love" should be held in the highest regard - there is no stronger emotion (possibly it's opposite - Hate - but even this doesn't mean anything either)...

However, society has cheapened it down to a point where a guy can actually use the word "Lovemaking" when he's hitting on a girl he JUST MET!!!

well, I'd rather use that word only when I talk about some members of my family, a few friends and a special person in my life. Otherwise it would lose it's meaning, by being used too often. I prefer like for all the rest:)

How else can you describe the way you feel if you feel really strong about someone, something or someplace but that you love it. The word love says it all be it to a man, a cat, Table Mountain, books or music to you it is the best.

For friends, family, and our "partners" I feel comfortable using the word love. The others....I get what you are saying and I agree. A friend to love is a very rare and beautiful gift that should not be dismissed.

It depends... I say love about a lot of things, but there is a definite different in my voice, face, etc when I'm saying I love you to someone I truly love.

When we say we love food, movies, places, etc....we mean a different kind of love....we all find meanings in different things in life, and we do love them, just in our own special way ...because love has many sides to it, we can love our partner in one way, we can love our friends in another way, we may love our family in another way and we can love different things in life in different ways....but thats just my opinion.
