The use of squash ball in the glove by a batsman has come to light only in the final of Cricket World Cup 2007, when Adam Gilchrist of Australia revealed that he had used a squash ball in the glove. Though he batted exceptionally well,it cannot be guaranteed that with the use of squash ball the batsmen will be able to score heavily as was done by Gilchrist all the time. If Gilchrist would not have scored the century in the final, no one would have known that he had used a squash ball.

I won't say that that squash ball had turned Gilly to someone different........he was the best player before using this thing and he would be the best even without using it...........but the thing is if using squash ball goes against the laws..then he was not suppose to do it..!!

Btw i have no idea how could it helped the player all alone ....keeping good grip is not everything......it needs a player to know the technique of batting the best as well.....only then he can hit while keeping the good grip otherwise not...!!

I don't really see why it's a problem. It's not against the rules of the game, and if Gilchirst had special gloves made which performed the same function it wouldn't be a problem.

I'm always quite loathe to hear people state it's not in the spirit of the game. Maybe it isn't and I'm sure Colin Cowdrey wouldn't have done it, but neither is not walking when batsman edge the ball or excessive, intimidating appealing (a feature of many teams with great spin bowlers, naming no names) or sledging, all of which are practised by every country in international cricket.

I regard Gilly as highly sporting, he is known to walk when he knicks the ball in particular.
