I have a 75 litre tank that has been astablished for over 2years now and did house community fish, but a couple a months ago I bought a 200 Litre tank also and started to keep Malawi's and now Im hooked!! And find the community fish rather boring now, so now I have given away most of my community fish but kept my favourites in a 30 Litre in my Sons room, But I cant seem to be able to find any adult Convicts the have proven to breed! I live in the South West of England and all I can find are Fry or Juvenilles? Sorry Ive rambled!! Any Ideas Please???

You only need convicts that are about 1 1/2 inches (3.5 cm) to breed. A 75 litre will be okay for a young pair, but you'll need a larger tank for them when they're older - closer to a 100 liter - and tou need to consider the amount of space the fry will need.

Convicts are easy to sex - the females will have orange/pink along their abdomens and rounded points on the dorsal fins. I've seen sources that recommend getting two of each gender and letting them pair off, but you'll only be able to keep one pair in the size of tank you're using and I've never found this to be necessary. If you get one of each gender, I've never had trouble having them spawn, and I've raised 5 generations of black convicts. All they'll need in the tank is a cave - I use an unglazed clay flowerpot turned on its side.

Good luck with the cichlid spawning - they're fun to watch as the parents "herd" the fry around the tank. I've even had the "dads" mouth pelleted food and spit it out to feed the babies.

Hi. Be warned. I had a breeding pair of convicts and it all went badly. They got along fine in a species only tank, breeding on a 4 to 6 week cycle until the female was not ready. The male attacked her and stripped her of all her fins and took some rather impressive lumps out of her.
You do not need a proven breeding pair just a male and female. They will breed like very violent guppys. Make sure you have a petshop you can sell (if your lucky its hard to even give these away) them to or you will be stuck with a tank full of fish no one wants.

You should have no trouble getting a pair of convicts, just get a male and female and they should breed ,the problem will be getting them to stop.Your tank should be fine for convicts as they are not an overly large type of cichlid, just don't put anything else in with them or they will try to kill it to protect the fry.

so what? it truly is exactly what's to be envisioned with convicts or any cichlid, quite in an fairly tiny tank. yet fairly it would not remember a lot, inspite of out the convicts your fish were doomed to die in that tank. i'd advise that you come across a diverse position to get suggestion about the thanks to maintain fish, by some ability you probably did a bunch of issues incorrect and do not look to draw close it.

Trust me you don't want Convicts!
They breed once a month and attack everything in the tank including themselves!
Then when you have an overloaded tank you cannot get rid of them because every good fish owner knows how disruptive breeding convicts are!
