I am pretty good with coming up with catchy titles. So for fun, I checked a list of for-sale domain names. Bought a cheap one, had an offer from someone who REALLY wanted it. Sold it for 15x the price. I didn't ask why the person wanted it, but do you think this was just a fluke? I know there are all these sites that give suggestions on how to make a profit this way, but I see it more as an art form that can't be taught. It doesn't seem likely one can predict what domain name is going to just be the right one for a buyer. What do you think?

Well a lot of people do this, so I don't think its a fluke. Some domain registrars offer services to make this more automated.

I does depend on how badly people want what you have. Before you invest a grip of money on domain names, start with a select few that you think make sense. If they sell, you're on to something and keep going.

You won't know if it's a fluke or not until you've bought and sold a few.

An awesome way to make money though. I love that!

No I do not think this is a fluke. If you are really good at thinking of catchy names. You should continue to do this. Its a very smart and legal idea. I recommend you keep doing this. Just keep thinking of cool/catchy names and I'm sure you will continue to keep getting sales like that. I wish you the best of luck.
