I'm usually very much a skeptic on such things, but when I lived in Alaska where earthquakes are pretty common, I could tell one was about to hit. It wasn't but about 10 seconds before movement could be felt, but it was there. I can't really describe the feeling, it's sort of like an eerie silence, combined with a building tension. I've had that exact feeling just before a sonic boom from jets, also, but with less lead time.

Animals have keener senses than humans, and there is a great deal of antecdotal evidence behind claims they sometime sense earthquakes well before they happen. I thought could see it in my wolf hybrid I had when I lived in AK sometimes, but I also saw him sleep through a couple that were around a 5.0 magnatude. So far, that and seismographs are all we have, and both depend a great deal on your ability to accurately interperet what they are doing with your "gut feeling" to get any advanced warning of a serious trembler. Even feeling something myself, by the time I recognized the feeling the best reaction I ever had was to say "earthquake" a second or two before the intial wave hit. It did impress everyone in the room at the time, but was of no other help..

By observing the behaviors of animals and some other natural changes that may take place before an earthquakes. I have designed an instrument called early warning alarm for earthquake that has proved its capability on five occasions including the day of Tsunami. Visit my slide show.

the easiest and cheapest way is to keep an eye on your pet, or any other animals if they are around. they can tell these things way before we can

if your pet is going crazy and hiding.. then um.. follow his lead. :P
